It seems I haven't been able to find a smoker in my price range. I have asked a buddy to go in on a smoker with me. I have been checking out Smokey Joe's Smokers and was wondering if anyone had one or knew something about them. Just trying to make myself feel a little comfortable before dropping th $2000+.

Your responses are greatly appreciated.

Thanks, RonnieB

Never seem a Smokey Joe's Smoker but......
You can get a brand new Diamond Plate Products 40 series for a little over $1600.00 DPP`s in general are becoming pretty hot on the BBQ curcuit call Travis & talk to him about his smoker he`s a hoot to yack with. Texas ain`t to far to drive to pick it up eather. DPP sounds like good smokers for a lesser price.
For myself owning 5 backyard smokers and a home built moble rotisserie i`m tring to justifiy a DPP purchace. Like to get one but......well like the wife said "don`t you have enuff smokers" Confused

I just Ordered one of Joe's rigs.
From talking to him, and getting pictures of the pit and a full expanation
of how his pits work I was put at ease. He even gave me phone #'s to other customers that had nothing but great things to say. I am expecting my pit on the 10/19/06. The welds are not Gator Pits perfect but heck for the bang for buck you get, who cares. He has a different way of heating up the cooking chamber and it makes sense! He builds the trailer and smoker from the ground up. This is a real custom Smoker at a Big Box store price. Also the steel he uses is 3/8" thick. Once my Monster gets here I will post images for you.

Thanks for all the replies. I took a different direction. I just got back from illinois from picking up my new to me, but used Lang 60 with deluxe upright. I couldn't resist and even fired it up last night. Worked great on my homemade andoiulle sausage. The only challenge I have right now is getting the upright hotter. I think I will do some searches on some possible mods.

The smoker is somewhere between Ca and NM.
Joe sent me picks of my pit today. Took a little longer than expected but good things come to those who wait. Here is a link of the pics I have so far. Once it gets here I will shoot some real detail pics and share those too.

They have been stuck on the freeway for the past two hours just South of Bakersfield. I knew the freeway Gods would not be forgiving. I even put out an offering to them of some ribs and pulled pork sammies. Thats it, "No soup for you!"
Will post the pics when it gets here.

Ok, so I have seasoned her and the next day cooked a few ribs. It held the temp from left to right with only a 3* difference. Takes about 7 min. to get back to temp after peekin' in. I am doing some turkeys, pork butt and brisket his weekend. Will send pics during and after.

Well here are the results from my first of the holy trinity. Butt-brisket-n-bratts.
http://share.shutterfly.com/action/welcome?sid=0AaNXLhmzbM2Lv4
The Brisket was wonderful, The butts were great too. I think I like this stick burner stuff. hot damn! BTW, my neighbor threw a Cajun party yesterday. He had Gumbo, catfish, hush puppies, crawdads... the whole thing. Since I am a transplant from East Texas I really enjoyed the heck out of his food. So to show my thanks I gave him one of the Butts, and well the butt was offered to the guests and you would have thought these people hadn't eaten in a year.

That is a very nice looking pit and the size should serve you well... I'm only concnerned about those tires. What does the pit weigh and what are those tires rates for? When your doing 60mph down the highway, I wonder how fast those small tires are spinning?

Have fun with your new pit!

James.

The tires are 10 ply pontoon tires. they have the same rating as a set of 15" wheels. The guy drove the pit all the way from Nowata, OK to Murrieta Ca. Over 1500 miles and they seem to be holding up well. If I go to larger wheels then I run into a storage issue. I just need to stay up on the bearings.

I wanted a rotisserie and ended up getting a Kingfisher Backyard Bonanza through Mike Lease at BabirUSA in Arkansas. He didn't have one in stock but got it built and delivered it in a little over a week. On top of that I got a great price on it.

I'm very happy with it and very impressed with his customer service and followup. I'd highly recommend them to anyone in the Arkansas or Pennsylvania area (he works the business with his son who's in PA). They have a pretty impressive website too http://www.bab-b-q.com/
