We were lucky enough this past week end to get a fifth place call in brisket at the Owensboro Grillin and Chillin BBQ Cookoff Very Happy .

When I reviewed the weighted score sheet it showed our score to be the exact same as the fourth place team. So I was wondering as to how they go about breaking ties? Does anyone know?

Thanks,
Dab

KCBS? If so I think that they explain it in the rule book but I think that in the case of a tie they look at the taste score...highest score wins...if those are the same then it is the texture and then apperence....if it is still the same then you go to a coin toss I believe, but i am fairly sure all of this happens in the KCBS software...

Yes it was a KCBS. Thanks for the info. I'll check the rule book. Good luck on your upcoming contest Dawg.

We ran into the same problem last year. Came in third in ribs, but our scores were exactly the same as the second place team. It came down to a coin toss. I guess if I could figure out how to score a 180 on everything this wouldnt be a problem. Smile

I think that those 180's you see are much more a function of the judges than they are a function of the cook or the food turned in...

yeah....maybe that will work...getting a perfect score for 1 or 2 judges is good enough for me...I aint really looking for the perfect score unless it takes that to win...I am really just in the just bring home a trophy mode right now...trying to build a BBQ resume...I will worry about being perfect when there is nothing left to worry about...

There was an article in the bullsheet explaining the process. Unfortunately, it relies on going to the judges score that was dropped.

You have 6 judges score your entry and the lowest score is dropped. Doesn't make sense to leave it up to the judge who was out of sync with the others to be the deciding vote in a tie breaker but thats the system.
