Maniac, nice progress on the cooker. I think the links would work out well for hinges and would look very cool with that style of tank. I have a few of my salvagers keeping an open eye for the style of tank with the rivets on them, I really like that look!

Looks like this will turn out to be a real nice build. The rivets and hinges will give it some nice character. I like the ash pan too.
I will be watching for more progress. Keep up the good work.

Honestly, I think you are going about this all wrong... You just don't have the skills for a tank like this. Just for arguments sake, I think you should finish this and then send it to me to test out for a couple of years to make certain! Heck, I'll come pick it up! Laughing

Seriously, I am LOVING the tank, and the build is coming along great. The mock up on the floor to determine the opening is a very good idea! Soapstone and concrete have been the artist's canvas for a LOT of great ideas!

Now, about the hinges, I think the links would be a perfect addition to the pit. It would add to the flair shown with the rivets and it would be something that I, and I'm sure most others, have not seen before.

Have a color scheme in mind yet? I can see some rocking ideas on the smoke side!

Look forward to more pics and some cooks soon!

Charlie

Um, for those with no sense of humor, I was giving him a hard time... Cool

Maniac really like old rivet tanks, hard to find any more.
I saw 2 round handles on the floor, are you going to put them on the smoker also.
Your build is looking good.
If you need help on the color for your pit,let me know.
I have a color in mind Very Happy

Wow. That is on nice fire grate. I was thinking about one like that today as I was making a much simpler one. Nice job.

Maniac, I am loving your fire grate. Very Happy Very nice work. Very Happy
If you find you still lose some hot coals just tack some expanded metal to the bottom. It can be replaced easy enough when it burns out. I added some to the Smokin'Ace's for that reason, I thought my spacings were tight enough but I was off a bit. Smile
