Ms. Yardman and I were in Charleston, SC over the weekend and took a harbor cruise with some friends who had never been in the Holy City before. The cruise was catered by the folks from Fiery Ron's BBQ {located, I believe. on Sullivan's Island}
The pulled pork was excellent...moist, mixed through with bark and "inside meat" and really pulled, not the usual chopped stuff they called pulled pork. I commented to the server that I was a "Smoker" and he even brought out a whole butt to show me, with the bone loose as it should be. I was surprised that he would do that, but was very impressed with the obvious quality of the product. They must have pulled the meat on the spot, rather than pulling it earlier and letting it dry out. He was excited that someone would ask and was pleased to show off.
The chicken was well seasoned with dry rub, and also moist. My only complaint here was that the cuts were from those strange chickens that commercial places always seem to find. Where do they GET these birds?
The mac and cheese was made with gouda and a bit "saucy" for my taste, but with good flavor and nice crust. The slaw was standard fare and not particularly noteworthy, though not bad.
They had a number of different sauces, including a mustard sauce made with stone ground mustard that was interesting and very flavorful.
All in all, this was a very good BBQ meal, and much more than could normally be expected at such a venue. I look forward to returning to Charleston and traveling to Fiery Ron's actual location. _________________ 22.5" Weber Grill

Fiery Ron's HOME TEAM BBQ is originally located in the West Ashley area of Charleson with a second location recently opening on Sullivan's Island.
Easily some of the best bbq in the Charleston area...but that isn't saying much. _________________ Somewhere in Kenya...a village is missing their idiot. |
