Sort of surprised (maybe not) by BBQMAN's response to me this morning in a private message when I asked to SEE his smoker. Interesting to me that he would assume I needed his training and consulting... All I wanted to do was to SEE it in person, rather than on his website.
I suppose my assumption of him being an ass is correct. Hey your friend thinks you are too.

Quite frankly, most of us are very helpful at this forum.
However, I'm not comfortable putting you into business.
That being said you won't find many that are able and willing to train the competition. So I'd offer you my consulting as a (paid) option.

From another guy on this site:
Yea BBQ Man will do his best to keep you from going in business - LOL. He called me right after he talked to you and said the last thing he needed was more compitition. He seemed pretty miffed about it. I'll bet he bad mouthed me, my cooker and said anything to keep you from doing what he does. He operates that way. I don't. |

I dont know too many businesses in this recession willing to give any help to the competition. You say "see in person" this tells me you are in close proximity to him, therefore direct competition. I bet if you owned a Hardies and walked over to the McDonalds asking to tour the back, maybe take notes, you would get a similar cold shoulder in the current economy. Times are tough all over, people are going banrupt left and right, not to mention how many already have in the last year .. I bet if you were a thousand miles away it would have been a much different story - heck, he invited a bunch of us down from Wisconsin to let our weenie's thaw in the Florida sun this winter!
If you think he was out of line, you should re-read your post. _________________ Money Maker

Easy there fella's..
We dont need to start bashing anyone..
I have always found BBQMAN to be very helpful..
He has never been the guy sporting the Asscap. I have had it on a time or 2 and it didnt fit worth a dam.
If there was something other than a misunderstanding I would be surprised..
Lots of good people here as I can assure You he is, as well as You gents are Im sure.
Take care and cook on.

I've found the members of this sight to be very helpful. That was your question right.
Just scanning thru the catering and vending sections and see that bbqman replies to almost every post actually attempting to answer the question and not flaming people, seems he is helpful as well.
I wanted to see the pits at smittys and louie muellers so I went there and paid for my food and asked if I could take a closer look and they said sure.
Sounds like you were asking for a bit more and the other person that you spoke with is probably the same person that stalks bbqman looking for any reason to flame him, or your just a new account for that person. |

Going good Whitey!
Sometimes people scare me. I think some people forget how to be decent human beings. I don't know why they feel the need the talk smack.
Not to mention having the need to get others all riled up too.
Take it to some other forum. _________________ Camp Chef Pro90 Stove w/ Griddle

I'm sort of helpful most of the time, but I'm sarcastic to an extreme and always prepared to stand my ground when it comes to an argument.
As someone else said PM's are so you can communicate privately.
If you want to make BBQMAN out to be the bad guy lets dissect what was said on both sides.
You asked for a physical tour of his business, and he sounds like he declined if it was going to be without payment.
And you've been in the business so long you don't need to offer to pay him as a consultant.
Then that makes me ask what do you need to see his set up for?
It's like someone calling a ringer when they see a picture of that ringers S/O, and asking to come over and give the S/O a test drive, cause they would like to feel what it would be like to be in your shoes.
I don't think you will understand that he owes you nothing on this forum or in real life, and bringing it onto this forum doesn't show him in as bad a light as it does you! _________________ Here's a change Robert.
