| New member here and looking for some info on a pipe burner.I cook/smoke on a upright using a gas low pressure burner for heat assist.Currently the box{it an alluminium cart a baker stores dough in}is not insulated. To make the heat assist more even{and hotter}I would like a pipe burner in the bottom rather than the cast iron burner. The custom burners from Tejas are not in the budget and overkill for what I am looking to achive. Can I bend or fabricate a stainless pipe{or cast iron}in a grid pattern and just drill holes in it and mount it in the bottom?I use a low pressure regulator and needle valve for control. The wood used provides the majority of the heat source, just looking for a more even and adjustable assist.Alot of my smoking is fish and I am not able to tend the cooker 100% of the cooktime.Apoligize for such a long question for my first.I will get a pic posted of the cooker asap. Thanks! |

I made burners from the link the KAM posted. It was pretty easy. Read the entire post.
I went to the local propane supplier and they had the orifices that I needed. I drilled mine to drill size 55.
A few photos
Not enough air. I had to make the vent holes larger.
I wanted to use the existing holes.
This is what I ended up doing.
I used the regulator from a turkey fryer. It was adjustable. |

| Thanks for the info and link. What is the consensus on fabricating it in a "H"pattern? If so where should the supply located? The link is very informative, what about using 1/2"?Not looking for alot of heat just consistent and even throughout the cooker. Most of all want it to be safe if not attended. |

This is the same type burner as we have in our BQ Grill, only the guy that builds these puts the slits on bottom so nothing clogs the slits. Still works the same but less cleanup of the burner and if one gets clogged just run a hacksaw blade through it once or twice to clean out. _________________ Rec Tec 680 Pellet Grill, Weber Performer, Wilmington Grill, UDSx2 |
