a full face compared to goggles is a jump in price and safety / protection. he didnt mean that a good helmet had to have a cute design on it.
you get the sun burn on your face one time real good and you with know the difference.
this link is the helmet im using, its the best one i have ever had. but it doesnt have any pretties on it.

Then get it.
When it comes to my eyes personally, i would/will spend more money on something from a source that is more reliable than HF. Last time i checked they can hook you up with all kinds of prosthetics but once your eyes are shot your chit outta luck.
YMMV. |

As stated. What makes a good unit compared to the link besides vanity.. Vanity can come from design and also how much someone got scammed over another place of business.
I am hearing most do not wish to answer my questions..
According to this price it should be a better unit but is it really cooler ??

viewing area is smaller in some of the cheaper ones. i personally dont like or trust solar powered ones. ( had issues with one and tossed it in the trash barrel for its trouble )
i think mine has settings for shade, sensitivity and delay (coming out of shade) so there are several combinations to customize the way it acts.
air flow through the helmet is also another factor to watch for in any helmet cheap or pricey.
or just go old school with a set shade helmet and learn to flip it down and still hit your mark. i think a set shade is about $50 and ugly as sin waiting to be pin striped. _________________ Im not a proctologist, but I know an asshole when I see one!

No, years of welding and learning different techniques make your welds better. I welded for over 25 yrs. with a dull black fixed shade before I bought my adjustable. I have two metal fibre helmets that are fixed shade that I let my friends and family watch or learn from while I am welding. They work just fine. If you would read the options on each helmet you have looked at and then maybe even call a welder supply store for answers to some of those questions you might get some answers that you need. Each member on here has different needs as far as hoods welders and equipment, it is based solely on user preference. I feel you are drowning in to much information. No one can tell you what will be best for you. My advice is get a fixed shade helmet and be done with it, who knows you might not even like welding and then you have saved some money. These are just my thoughts Good Luck with your quest. _________________ Always remember slow and steady wins the race.

Mig is easy to do with a fixed shade. You can have the wire touching right where you want to start, flip your helmet down, and go to town.
...halfway through my project, I got a auto-dark. -payment from my brother for a welding job I did for his company.
The auto-dark is GREAT, but not a requirement. _________________ FNG Smoker |

I put in an order to get a helmet.
It seems specks do NOT matter to some.. When they go shopping at the store (If they shop at all) They just grab and do NOT read what is in the product..
