A good friend of mine is scoring a Brinkmann smoke n grill for next to nothing and i'm going to help him do the mods.

i'm just curious about intake methods, is there any way to mod this thing like a uds? as far as just using 3 or 4 nipples with a ball valve and caps? and just cutting a 2 inch exhaust in the top?

any advice would be greatly appreciated.

You did notice that the entire underside of the Smoke 'n' Grill is wide open, yes? Not much point in adding any kind of intake controls until that open bottom is closed up.

Aside from that issue, sticking pipe nipples through the side of the cooker could be problematic because of lack of clearance between the body and the charcoal pan inside...

Cheers!

There are quite a few Ringers that have done modifications to the Brinkmann Smoke 'n' Grill (which I think is also sold as the Smokin' Cajun). Unfortunately the Forum Search widget doesn't lend itself to searching for "Smoke 'n' Grill" very well as no matter how you enter it or set the search scope, the widget will search for "smoke" and "grill" separately, resulting in one, massive set of results, with nearly all of the threads having nothing to do with the Smoke 'n' Grill.

But the pertinent threads are in there, somewhere, so I recommend having a nice cold beer or two at the ready while you click through the list.

One of the more notable, related threads is this one:
http://www.thesmokering.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2317. Alien put together a bunch of cool ideas to make the most of that model cooker.

And, again, there are other threads worth looking at for ideas, you just need the patience (fortified by an adult beverage Wink ) to find them.

Cheers!

Go to the search widget http://www.thesmokering.com/forum/search.php

Input "brinkmann and smoke and grill" without the quotes, and you'll get 120 or 121 results, the big ones are pretty easy to pick out to read.
