Well been looking at the ring alot. Its been way to hot to think about welding. Got a couple of barrels. The first is for a friend of mine. The other two are not planned out yet. Also picked up a 250 gallon propane tank to work on this winter.
all the barells, they had some kind of tomato stuff in them in a past life. There was no liner in them . The first will have 2 grates and a regular lid. Untile we find a weber lid.
burnt it out. Then pressure washed it then got the supports for the grates welded into the inside
made a diffuser plate. Don't know if I need it but it was cool to make. That is where the water pan will sit
That is with the 2 grates in. Top one is 4 inches from the top. The 2nd is 11 inches from the top.
The lid. Made a hook on the inside of it so it can just b hung on the side of the barrel.
This will be a shelf to help with loading and unloading.
Only got a few things left. Mount shelf, Mount air intake. Which will be two 1'' pipes one with a valve, one with a cap. Any suggestions would be great. Thanks |

I wish my lid could hang. I have to use two hands and set it on the ground upside down.
Not many suggestions; other than I have two 14 x 26" shelves and still run out of room real quick. Your mind does a brief checklist of what you'll use it for, but in reality it's about 5 times that amount... Amazing how quickly they fill up.
Also, it looks like you can remove a bit of length from the upper grate bolts without danger of it falling in if pushed to one side. Makes a big difference when trying to remove lower grate.
Oh, and add a J-bolt/hook type thing somewhere to hang your grates on during basket removal/cleaning/whatever. Sucks when your only alternative is the ground.
Lastly, it appears you get some rain over there. Perhaps a cover or porch parking to keep those lids from puddling up?

Well we got the uds done and had a great cook. As I mentioned earlier this was being built for a buddy of mine. I got him to help with the build, and then told him it was his about half way through. He couldn't believe it. So here are the final pics. And again I have to mention I was no help with the paint.
Front view, two therms just below the grates. 1'' air inlet. There is also another 1'' inlet on the other side but that one just has a cap
Got the shelf put on and put 3 hooks to hang utensils, and room to add more if needed.
this was probably one of the hardest parts of this thing. We built the bottle opener
And now the food
The brisket turned out very tender and juicy. And did not last long.
The chicken turned out awsome also. We also did a bunch of ABT'S but was to busy eating them, so I forgot to get a picture. But it was all very good. And again thanks for the help from the ring. |

I think the best part was the surprise. Somebody taking their own time and energy to help with something because they are a friend, and to then suddenly get rewarded like that....cool!! _________________ Since Christ DIED for us, we should LIVE for Him!

Thanks Killswitch, hey Where is your dp clone been looking for it
Thanks hell fire but like I said, I had nothing to do with that. My buddy we made it for has the gift of design. I don't. He also put flames on my smoker which was just the beginning.
cityevader Yeah it was cool. He is the one that got me into smoking in the first place. But he had bought a store bought that just sucked. So I wanted to help and give a smoker that worked well.
Jonnyrod Thanks
rlanger0 I used a pipe nipple to weld to the lid. Then used the tip over that. |

I don't weld, so maybe I can thread a nipple into the 2" bung, or I can bolt a 2" floor flange to the INSIDE of lid and screw a nipple into that. |

+1 to killswitch that will work.
Killswitch I understand, for some reason work has hit like a bomb the last few months, hope it keeps it up through winter. But if not at least I will be able to build the trailer rig. And maybe have time for the lowjack |
