Hi all first time posting at the ring, but had a quick question as i noticed at least one member from Omaha, NE.
Is there anywhere around here that has expanded steel? (don't really want to buy a whole sheet for 1-2 smokers) People have told me that ace, home depot, menards or lowes carries it - nope called and went to one of each of the stores in case the person who answered the phone was mistaken. |

There you go. Google is your friend.
If i were you i would find a smallish steel yard and ask if they have any cutoffs. They often sell those much cheaper then full sheets. |

The Depot charges $20 for a 2 ft square piece and I paid less than $35 for a 4x 8 sheet at a metal supply yard, now I can make all the coal baskets or grills I want to for cheap. That was for the 3/4 x13 ga so I could bend it by hand. _________________ Charles E Embury SR.

And the last time i picked up expanded metal i asked about a sheet but the yard guy told me he had cut offs that were much cheaper. 2 pieces that were 18-20" wide by 6' long only cost me $10. Much cheaper that that whole sheet. |

Call around to some welding & fabrication shop`s i`m sure they would have some scraps or drops as they call it. You might be able to buy a half sheet also cut off as you need it, not a bad thing to have stashed up it the rafters in the garage. Leftover expanded metal craps an be used for all kinds of different projects. |

I guess I made out. I stopped by a fab shop to buy a 20 ft stick of angle steel for my storage box and walked out with that and 2 18" x 48" pieces expanded metal for $13 for all of it. I have been back several times to pick up different parts for projects and the guy let me poke around in the cut off bin and load up, one mans trash, anothers treasure.... _________________ Knuckleheads BBQ

Just went to the local Metal Supermarket store and got a piece of 3/4, 13 gauge expanded steel that's a foot wide by 58 inches long for $17.
They had it in the "drops" pile.
That's half the price I paid last time at another local steel supplier.
Check if there's one near you if you need expanded for your projects.

Maybe you will have better luck at your local fab shops I work at one and expanded metal is like gold around here. Everybody has there own government projects to work on. It kinda tends to come up missing around here. _________________ COS modified and always looking for mods to improve results! |

I have a good friend that is a union sheet metal guy.
He usually does all the fab work i need. He says its a government job.
Although i usually give him most of whats needed. The worst he has ever had to "supply" was some angle iron, and in the sizes that would be in the scrap bin. |
