Is this an indication of BBQ’s popularity or an new source of revenue?

White Castle on Friday rolled out a new barbecue menu at its Lafayette, Ind., restaurant, according to a report by local newspaper the Journal-Courier.

The "Blaze Modern BBQ" menu offers entrée options --- including chicken, turkey, pork, sausage and beef --- that can be slathered with a choice of five sauces. Sides include mashed potatoes, coleslaw, macaroni and cheese, baked beans and corn bread.

"This is a historic day, a new chapter," White Castle Vice President Jamie Richardson was quoted as saying. "Our customers still love our hamburgers, they just need a little barbecue now and then."

The Lafayette location was chosen from 420 White Castle restaurants in 11 states, the Journal-Courier reported. Richardson cited the city’s “business climate.”

The Blaze Modern BBQ menu is available 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. The rest of White Castle’s menu is available 24 hours per day.

Sadly, White Castle feels it necessary to deviate from their core product, burgers and cheeseburgers. No one even comes close to that particular flavor . Why do they insist in trying to compete? I tried a bacon cheeseburger once and almost gave on bacon completely.

The ever illusive quest for the fatter bottom line has been the downfall of many food joints. I think they should just open separate Q joints of they want to start selling Q. When I was stationed at Ft Gorden in GA we used to buy a bag of burgers every weekend at $00.25 a pop. They had a solid product at a fair price and I can't imagine why you would fool with success...
