Sgt Stel has been talking to me about a smoker to use for tailgating with his son at Mizzou and church cooks, etc. He has entrusted me with the build. I am honored.
With all the great builds going on around here I'm feeling some good pressure. Vexter1 can attest to how painfully slow I work on pits but Stel has promised to bear with me.
Started by rolling a 84"x60.5" sheet of 3/16" to 270* at about 38"dia for a 5'x 35" cooking chamber with flat swing out doors.
I am using 3/16" because I think it is adequate for a cooking chamber and I can handle a sheet this size by myself.
Test strip and sheet
First time through
A few more times through and some adjusting.
Here is the shape we are going for
With the diffuser tube.
Cardboard mock-up
I got the 2'sq firebox cut out of 1/4"
Stel took a few pics yesterday so maybe he'll post some too. _________________ D. Tillery

mrcustomsteel, WOW, that is gonna be one big cooker. 3 racks will definitely hold a bunch of groceries.
That will definitely make a bunch of Tigers roar.
Keep us posted, looking good. _________________ Gunny 3073/4044/8411

If I have this right, those are gonna be some big doors!
Should be a fun build to watch! Thanks for posting the pics

Words can't express how excited I am about this build. (LOL because it's mine!!! I never thought this day would come)
Here is the overall layout keep in mind this is a concept drawing.
The top grill sq inches is wrong because the cooking chamber is now bigger.
There have been some changes since this layout but overall this is it. _________________ BOTP (Brother of the Pig) originated by JeepDad

Not busting your nuts and bolts... but if I was building it, I'd do it the other way round on the trailer, cooker on the passenger side, warming box and prep table on the drivers side.
But what do I know? _________________ Here's a change Robert.

I'm open to ideas ... what's the reasoning? Cooking activity or driving visibility? Ya got me wondering.

Cooking activity, if you put it on the passenger side, you can pull up to the curb and cook without getting run over.

SoEzzy, good point. Entry side is easy enough to change. However Stel decides, I can do it that way.
daytripper, the doors are going to be about 26"x30.25"ea. not too big.
Six shelves are going to be about 28"w x 33",35",33"D. Maybe one big one on the bottom @60"wx33"D. _________________ D. Tillery

Great looking build as usual D!
Looking forward to seeing your progress.
I can tell Sgt Stel has been hanging out with you and vexter too long- great for both of you!
What's wrong with dodging traffic?
I did the same thing with my trailer, and adjusted the placement for it's storage location for the same reasons. _________________ BBQMAN

So we are thinking something like this.
Looks good to me. I'll follow the council of the wise and experienced! Glad I posted the drawing ... almost didn't.

I don't know about the "wise and experienced" but I feel better about the second drawing than I did about the first. _________________ Here's a change Robert.

Another question out of curiousity...if it is a set it and forget it / needs little attention pit, wouldn't ya be hangin' out at the larger prep table more often? Anyway, nice concept, can't wait to see the real thing. _________________ Backyarder

I'll mostly be stick burning so this won't be a "set and forget" kind of smoker. While I'm leaning toward a Stocker for some cooks it most likely will not be the majority.

I've also been in contact with the USO here in St. Louis and there will be opportunities for me to use this cooker to cook for the troops! My wife and I are excited about that.

D, you are off to a fine start I look forward to following your progress.
Sgt. Stel, I like the layout y'all have designed, very nice. And it helps to have D as the builder I love watching his builds come together. _________________ Always remember slow and steady wins the race.
