| Every so often the local stores have butts for $.98 per pound. Does it affect the taste or texture to buy fresh and freeze it for later use? |

i freeze them all the time and have never noticed a change in taste or texture if they are wrapped well. if you dont wrap them well you could end up with freezer burn, that will affect taste and texture. _________________ Im not a proctologist, but I know an asshole when I see one!

I buy 'em by the case at Sam's, vacuum pack them, and freeze them all the time. Had some I forgot about that were around 11 months in the deep freeze. They turned out just fine. _________________ ~Joe

Package the meat well, maintain a cold freezer, don't let it sit in there too long, and the product should be fine.
If I stumble on to a really good price on certain cuts you bet I'll buy some for the freezer, but with the mindset that it needs to be cooked within 3~4 months, so I don't overstock. Then I repackage in vac bags, write the date (and cut if it isn't obvious) on with a Sharpie, then freeze...

Buy them and rat hole them for later..
I think Kevin(K.A.M I believe it was him) Says he will wrap additional with butcher.I think it helps with the freezer burn. _________________ Lang 84 delux long neck chargrill.

Whitey is correct. When they go on sale we rat hole them. We have four in the freezer right now. I keep them in there original sealed bag and wrap them in freezer paper. _________________ Always remember slow and steady wins the race.

I buy them by the case and freeze, use as needed. I was told by my butcher that if they are in the original cryovac bag and are sealed (no holes) they should be good for up to nine months in the freezer.
Bought two cases last march on sale for .89 cents a pound, finally sold the last three for a meat only deal. Six months in the freezer no problems that i could see or smell. |
