That is reverse opposite around here, Wally World is usually by far the higher price on butts. $1.30 ain't bad right now. The main thing is to make sure the label does not indicate that the butts have been "enhanced" with some sort of solution. Make sure there isn't an ingredient list, in other words.

I've used them. Looked like a pork butt, felt like a pork butt, cooked like a pork butt, tasted like a pork butt. No complaints, lots of happy, full bellies.

As charleso said, watch to make sure they are not 'enhanced'. Seems ALL of the meat at my wallyworld is enhanced, even the 'Steakhouse' beef Confused

You won't find any un-enhanced butts at wally world in these parts. Although I would much rather deal with fresh (unenhanced) meats, we occasionally can find enhanced picnic shoulders for $.99 /lb. and I will buy them. The end product has always been good and no one has ever complained. YMMV, but I say getone and try it out after all, what's the worst that can happen? Shocked

I totally agree, it's hard to get un-enhanced meat anymore, especially chicken.

At $1.30/lb it's definitely worth a shot.

Thanks DWD for the early morning laugh. Now I'm gonna look down that isle and remember this post and probably get a big sh*t eatin' grin on my face.
Bomb'n, I haven't used their butts, but their dino bones are the best around. I don't think they were enhanced.

Does the "enhancement" actually effect the taste or is it only to increase the weight of the butt?

Don't know about butt, but I bought a steak and it wasn't a good thing.

First, it was really salty, and second, the texture was wrong. I read an article about the enhancement, and it's not just the injection of brine. They also put some gas in the package (at least with the packages that have "air"). The gas makes the meat stay "fresh" longer.

But like I said, the texture was just wrong. Kind of like eating rubber.

Interesting. Around here our Walmart butts are extremely small, 3-5lbs and way expensive compared to most other stores. I haven't bought any from them because of this.

i have used walmart enhanced butts, they are ok. if you plan to inject anything into the butt ( this conversation could go down hill real quick from here ) keep in mind its for the most part been injected and probably wont take as much liquid as a non-enhanced . to me they taste the same and stay nice and moist.

i appreciate all the response to this.

i think i'm going to stay away from their meat. i have an issue with a store basically brining stuff so it can sit longer on shelves.

that and i'd rather help the local guy than to buy enhanced meat from tyson.

thanks again to everyone that gave their input.

99% of all wallymart meat is "enhanced" with a solution of salt water (10-20% depending on the meat).

I don't buy meat there. The only thing 'not enhanced' is the ground beef, and I get a better deal on that at Costco.

I thought the reason for the brining is because you make more money when you sell salt water at meat prices.

Hmm. That explains why Aldi (the low price leader) has the highest price for spares around here.
