Some people dont like the brand... others dont have any problems with them...

Do a search on the forums and you will find more threads about them.

bama6977, never you mind Teleking. He means well. Laughing As DntBrnDPig mentioned there are about as many members that dislike them as there are members that like them. I have had mine for a little over a year with no problems. I did have a tricky switch on the receiver but they replaced it with a new one. (it was still under warranty)

The only thing I use mine for is smoker temp. My meat thermo won't move after on the smoker for awhile. Plus my receiver sometimes won't work even when less than 2 feet away. Shoulda saved my money. Mine however is marketed under the "big green egg" brand. It is the ET-73. I payed 49.99 at a local bbq store.

I got mine for $43 shipped and can't remember where. Been using it for over a year without a single issue. Lasts an amazingly long time on a set of batteries.
Love it, love it, love it.

Teleking does mean well even if he comes across strong. He does have a point that if you "know your pit you don't need to keep checking temps". However, most people don't use their pit every single day for a long time to get to know every minute detail of an intricate web of conditions that affects temps, or how those affect the many details of specific meats, types, sizes, etc and so need to actually monitor it.

Much like how I was so in-tune with my motorcycle that I could feel when it needed an oil change or spark plugs, or even tires, without looking at the odometer, tires, oil etc. I just knew and I was always right. "Weekend warriors" on their crotch rockets wobbling through turns on Hwy 9 would never be able to know that from their much more infrequent riding.

Why are you shouting?

Please don't just run with your caps lock on, on this forum it is considered bad manners to do so!

Or you could use it for insurance against unplanned events while you get some sleep.

Wow this thread is toxic.

"If you need a thermometer, you don't know how to cook."

Well I'm gonna ignore that.

As for the Maverick, unfortunately there is no mass-produced, two-probe, wireless thermometer that's worth a crap. So we're stuck with the Maverick which is a pain in the ass to program, the probes break, and the wireless works to about 8 feet.

The only choices are to jump up to $250 or more for a fan controller unit with thermos.

Maybe some day some enterprising individual will come up with a unit for about $70 that does what we want.

Here's another thread with another product. But it's basically the same boat. Poor quality probes and they give up.

I've had mine over a year and as long as I remember to turn on the transmitter first, it has never failed me. I found that the more comfortable and familiar I became with my pit the less I used it, but it still gets used from time to time.
Bama, I see you're a newbie here but I don't want to assume you are new to smoking, but if so, you too will become familiar with your pit and the way it works and will also get to where you know meat is done by feel, not a thermometer.

While I agree some things you can tell by touch, I will always feel better serving food to others knowing that it is done and safe.

Dont want to get anyone sick eating Que.

What wireless thermometer with 2 temperature probes do you recommend for $100?
