I stopped by the original Sonny's on Waldo Road in Gainesville last night. Ordered a ½ rack BB and some PP.

The ribs didn't have any sign of a smoke ring and were glazed with what I believe is their sweet sauce. Unusual. IIRC the last time I had their BB they came dry and with a smoke ring. Looked at the St. Louis ribs a friend ordered and no ring and no bark.

I did ask the waitress how the BBs were prepared. She told me they were cooked to 80% on the grill and then finished and glazed on the grill as ordered. They did have a smoky flavor though. Hmmm...I'll have to see what they're putting in the sauce.

The PP was just so-so and I forgot to ask how it was prepared.

It's sad, twenty years ago this was the "go to" place for BBQ in Gainesville.
