This propane tank smoker is for sale in my area ($1,500) and I was wanting to know if you see any bad design flaws with it or anything else that should discourage me from considering it. I have never had a smoker this large so any input is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Tuning plates, raised firebox grate, or basket at all? I'd go pick up some thermometers and ask the guy if you can burn a test fire in it to see if it runs decent. The last thing you want is to spend alot on something that needs a lot of mods to make it work decent. How well do the doors seal?

It looks like theres something kinda strange going on with the thermos. It needs more exhaust and all of it on one end. The air intake looks small also. The toung of the trailer looks a bit under engineered. Thats what I CAN see that I would change. Not saying dont buy it but fixing those items would be a good idea.

As always do your best to beat the guy down on his price no matter what hes asking.

I agree with Hell Fire, and Philip. Seems like a decent price, but I would want to do a test burn for sure.

I would remove the stacks that are there and cap off the holes, then replace with a 6'' stack on the opposite end of the firebox. It looks like the therms are screwed into a pipe behind the doors, I would cut that out then patch and put the therms on the doors. The intake looks like it feeds from under the firebox, it looks way to small. I would cap that off and build a vertical intake slide on the firebox door. On the trailer tongue, without really seeing the front I would run gussets from the extreme left and right corners to alleviate any flex in the pipe. I would not need a test burn because these are things I know I would fix. If you can weld or can have it done then I would ask myself if this is the cooker I want to spend some quality time with to improve its performance and call it my own. I would ask if the price is negotiable in light of the mods that you might want to do. The cooker does have potential, and looks like it was put together well.

dmullen, by looking at the pics there are quite a few mods that need to be done. If you are capable and wanting to spend the time and effort to fix the problems is not a bad price. #1 the axle needs to be relocated, no tongue weight for towing smoothly. #2 looks like they have two 2" exhaust stacks (to small) between the therms and using the therms for door stops, those both would have to be relocated. #3 the heating grate on the fire box is to high to heat anything... might keep it warm though. #4 What is in the cooking chamber? what kind of mods would need to be done there?

But again if you like it and wanting to spend the time and money go for it my friend Very Happy ...... I personally would not puchase due to the fact I don't like the way it is set up... You know the old saying good things come to those who wait..

Thanks so much for the great information, I really appreciate it. From what you guys have suggested and from what I have been researching on my own I think I will pass. I have found others within the same price range that do include many of the details you have suggested. Love this place!

Reminds me of my old crappy harbor freight logsplitter I sold off. The wheels were exactly where you needed to be. Fighting over/on/around them all day was terrible.
