I assume you are coming down I-81 to I-75.
If you are wanting some around Atlanta, I'd highly suggest two places-
BBQ-1: It's about 12-15 minutes off of I-75 on the north end. Get off the on the Delk Road Exit (261), take a left. Follow that road until it dead ends into Terrell Mill Road just past Publix. Take a left. Stay on this road, it winds and turns. You'll cross over a major intersection(Johnson Ferry) and go past the McD's on the left, stay right. You'll hit another small strip mall on the right. There it is.
Community BBQ in Decatur. You'll need to wrap around I-285 Eastbound and down to US 78. Take a right and then another right onto Clairmont road. It's about 1/2 mile north on the right.
Google map these joints to see where they're at and if you want to stop at them. Both are excellent.
Those are the only two I can recommend. I would stay the heck away from Harold's in downtown ATL.
I live very close to BBQ-1. I've only had theirs twice and it was great. Went to Community about 2 weeks ago and it was great, too. Will go to both again.
There's also Bubba-Q up in Woodstock, off of I-575. Pretty good.
I know someone's gonna pop in and say Williamson Bros, but the two places I listed above cook it like you do in your backyard. It's good.
The time of day is your most important concern. I wouldn't even bother with I-285 Eastbound after 3pm. It will be locked down M - F.
You need to be be mindful of when you come through this hellhole. After 4 pm and you're going to be rolling slow through downtown and no, I would NOT use 285 to go around unless it's in the middle of the day. |

Just got back from a road trip to Warner Robbins to pick up my new Stump's and stopped at O.B.'s BBQ in McDonough, Ga. Right off I-75 above Griffin.
Food was good, svc was excellent. A bit on the expensive side. My buddy had 1/2 rack dry ribs and I had pulled pork. Overall not too bad. The only thing I did not like was that they charge .50 more if you want your pork pulled instead of chopped? Chopped pork is standard, pulled pork is more _________________ Thunder Road Smokehouse

| The guy behind Bub-Ba-Q in Woodstock is in the running for the Jack this year (as he has been in the past)...that should give you an idea how good his Q is. Nice guy too. |

I've lived around the Macon area all my life. The best barbecue I can recommend is not in Macon, but about 15 miles to the northeast in Gray, GA.: Old Clinton Bar-B-Q. Their meat has a great smoky flavor and their sauce (thin and vinegar based) is added when they put it on the bun, allowing you to taste that great smoked pork flavor. Some of the other locally famous BBQ joints like to let their meat sit in a thick mustardy sauce until it becomes one with the meat and seems like something that should be served with an ice cream scoop. You won't find that at Old Clinton - they're the real deal.
Here's their website: www.oldclintonbbq.com _________________ "Ay, there's the rub."

I'm sure I'm too late, but if you're headed through Greenville SC, I highly recommend Bucky's BBQ at 1700 Roper Mtn Rd. Best commercially available BBQ in the SE
Fox Bros is fine, although I don't find them exceptional. Solid brisket, a rarity in ATL
Fresh Air BBQ (only open on Thurs-Sat) in Athens is pretty good too (I would recommend coming down I-85 and taking 441 south at Commerce through Athens to Macon; especially if you're hitting the area any time around rush hour, which is pretty much all day) _________________ I likes to eat 'da pig!
