How many of you are using FEC 100's on the comp circuit? I have considered purchasing it since it would help with my catering buisness as well. Let me know your pros and cons of it if you have it. Thanks.

Hmm, I'll have to watch this one as I've been thinking of adding a second large smoker as well and the FEC is one I've been checking out. Just too many to choose from Confused
Chris, google cookshack forums, they have a lot on info there on the FEC

Hey Guys,

We're using the FEC100. we run two. I run them at two different temps according to what I'm cooking.

Both have the IQ4 controller. I used to use a kingfisher, but I wanted to get some sleep at at the comps without the fire going out.

The unit keeps temps within 2-3 degrees, comes up to temp quickly.

I have three, one at home, two in the comp trailer.

Pros.

Consistent temp and flavor. Once you're dialed in, you can easily repeat.

Cons.
Mount it. Moving it around CAN be done, but it doesn't move well on grass
Timing. If you're doing all four categories in one cooker, it can be EASILY done, you just have to work on doing all four. It's easier with 2, just ask David... LOL

The question I'd have is capacity. If you'll be catering with it, will it be enough.

Also for catering, you can't use it in contests, but get the temp probe and use the cook and hold feature. You can put a load of butts or briskets in, set the finish temp and when that's reached it will go to hold automatically

On, I didn't list it as a PRO, but SOME of us get plenty of sleep on the circuit, well I did when I competed, but I'm not competing much this year so I'm getting plenty of sleep.

Sounds like this is the way to go. Now to convince the wife of it. Does anyone know do they do financing?

I have ONE FEC100 (IQ4) that I use at comps and for catering. I also use two Traeger 075s at comps for extra capacity.

For catering, the 100 is worth the price, it does everything great.

I had to convince the wife too, but it has already paid for itself.
