I need a smoker that can cook up to 12 babyback ribs. I figure 3 racks on each rack. I'm thinking something like this but perhaps a little taller to fit one more rack in it. I was going to build a double barrel, but I don't think it will be big enough. Plus, I'm a huge fan of the vertical/UDS style. Money is tight right now and I'm looking for something efficient but cost effective. Any help or insight is appreciated.
Thanks
Adam

Maybe - but that bottom rack is going to be a lot closer to the fire than the top rack. So much so that I don't like that design.
I could fit 12 racks of ribs on a traditional UDS with 2 rib-rack holders (1 on each grate. I think that'd be a better idea. |

I wrap my ribs with foil so they have to lay flat _________________ Brinkmann Smoke 'N Grill

Search for Magnum or Magnum UDS.
I think ceedubya built a couple for him and a friend.
Though I couldn't find any pictures of his, perhaps if you PM him he may be able to supply some. _________________ Here's a change Robert.

Yep, we now have 4 in the arsenal, and have even competed with them and done pretty well. I have cooked 60 pounds of pork butt on one at a time. if you cut the doors right, and put the racks in the right locations it is pretty easy to get in and out to move stuff around. I usually rotate from top to bottom during cook. once everything settles in though, I can maintain a pretty even heat.
One thing we did was add a rack directly above the charcoal basket and use a ceramic flower pot bottom wrapped in foil as a heat diffuser with a water pan on top of that.
Oh, and if you roll your ribs you can fit even more racks.
I will see is I can find the threads.. _________________ The Edge... there is no honest way to explain it because the only people who really know where it is are the ones who have gone over - Hunter S. Thompson |
