Ok, so I have gotten my box to hold at a steady 58-60 now but just can't get it much higher. Digital hygrometer is fine and I am using an Xikar crystal humidifier for up to 250 smokes in a 60 smoke box with the proper solution. Only thing I can think of is it is just too damn dry in my house. The hot water heat fluctuates between 70 - 75 and is mostly at 73 during the day and the old man won't change it. Box is not near a window or radiator. I didn't have this problem last year but then again I did not have a full box. What are you folks doing during the dry winters? Do you add a DryMist or other device to keep you closer to 70%? It's a nice humidor and I don't want to put it in the basement. _________________ Pat

I do not have a humidifier for my house so it gets pretty dry. I have a second pad I add my glycol solution to in the winter time to make up for the dry conditions in my house. It seems to do the trick. _________________ "if you cant cook it in bacon grease it ain't worth eating"

In the winter the furnace is always cranked around here,we keep the house around 71-72 degrees. My box is down in the basement and my temp reads 72 and humidity is 69-70% and holds steady with 60 or so cigars in it.I use two humidifiers in it,one on top and one in the bottom under the tray.I use distilled water in the winter and propylene glycol in the summer because it is a little more humid in the basement and the glycol soultion will remove excess moisture.
I always check the calibration of my Hygrometer twice a year just to make sure it is accurite.......mine I have to add 1% to the humidity side and the temp is exact.
I would try adding another small humidifier to your box patruns. _________________ Horizon Offset (Marshall RD Special)

Well, I have a cigar shop next to me at work so stopped by at lunch and picked up a Boveda bag for $4. I'll see if this helps. _________________ Pat

Well, after adding the pack and recalibrating the hygrometer I am holding at a steady 62. I guess that is as good as it is going to get for now. _________________ Pat

Patruns,I remember you saying that all this trouble started when you let your box dry out.....just a thought...but you should try re seasoning your humidor, can't hurt...it would be nice to have a little more humidity in the box...at least 68%. _________________ Horizon Offset (Marshall RD Special)

Yeah, I thought about that CB. I have a lot of smokes to take out to do it and have been reluctant. Read 63 last night so I guess it is still slowly rising. If no more progress by the weekend I think I will pull them all and wipe it down good with distilled water. _________________ Pat

A few weeks ago my cigar shop added a new line from Alec Bradley, the Black Market cigar. Finally tried one yesterday and it is a truly an enjoyable smoke. Love the flavor, the aroma, the draw, the even burn, good all around cigar and around the $7-8 price.
If you get a chance smoke one of these nicely made sticks.
Name: Black Market
Company: Alec Bradley
Wrapper: Nicaragua
Binder: Sumatra
Filler: Panama & Honduras
Comes in: Box of 22
Price: $7.40/stick
Vitola: Toro (6 x 50)

And to finish each night, Cuban Cohiba Panatelas.
I must say, was quite the way to finish off the day.....

Thanks CB.
I've kept it at a steady 64-65 for a while now. I am not overely concerned at this point but I probably will need to pull the sticks eventually and wipe it down to get it a little higher. _________________ Pat

Jeepdad - Those ABs are all excellent smokes... Wish they made a 3$ stick!
I had an AB Prensado Robusto last week (96 rated) and worth every penny (14$ at the store but you can get online at $7.75 each for a box of 20)
I just keep going back to my Hoya de Monterrey's ...Very much like the Cubans I used to get overseas.

patruns and Tim, nice cigars! I have a two hour drive tomorrow looking forward to firing up one of my big cigars for the drive home after the meeting. Great thing about my jeep I can smoke in it with no worries. I am really the only one that drives it.
A little something I picked up today. Been looking for something lighter to carry (than my full sized 1911) but still keep the same punch. A Colt Defender, 45.
