Niiiice! I was just now kicking back with a home-brew IPA and what do I find on the 'Ring but a fellow brewer!
Do you use a stainless steel air stone, SnoValley? I gots to get me one of those, as my home made diffuser just doesn't make enough tiny bubbles.
fwiw,
It's a busy time of year in my tiny brewery! I have a few bottles of Dopplebock, a half-dozen Weizenbiers, about the same number of Blonde Ales, and a case of IPA and a case of Octoberfest lager all in the 'fridge. Then a case of Stout and a case of Pale Ale with just another week of conditioning to go, a case of Nut Brown Ale and a case of Red Ale in carbonation, and another batch of Pale Ale (wife's fave - gots to keep her happy! ) and a batch of Porter in primary fermentation. And as soon as I bottle those next Wednesday I'm going to squeeze in a big IPA and another batch of Stout.
Gotta get 'em done before the basement heats up! The fall is a long way away!

Lookin really good! I'm enjoying an IPA at the moment, first one we've kegged in a while. Had to wait until I got the kegerator up and running again. This was brewed with all nugget hops, pretty damn tasty. I'm getting kind of excited. Our fridge is on it's way out, so we're picking up a new one. But taking the old one out to the garage, and should be able to make it into a lagering fridge. Haven't made a lager yet. Should be intresting.
But yeah, nice to brew outside while smoking something tasty! _________________ Brinkman SnP - with mods

Nice keg boiler. Did you polish that yourself? That don't look like your typical american sanky keg there. _________________ Big Indian BBQ

Well, my brew-pal uses that steel air stone and he was very concerned about touching it.
This was the first time I had added oxygen to a batch, and full mash, so I am expecting some incredible flavors.
Where do you find the time to brew all that beer? I thought I was doing well with 10 gallons brewing:-( It is extremely hard to home brew when I have Snoqualmie Falls Brewery 5 minutes away. _________________ Nate

LOL! Yeah - I know about that kind of "problem" - we have the Wachusetts brewery just down the road a bit to the west, then a whole raft of breweries to the east - including Sam Adam's pilot facility - as distractions
The SS airstones are supposed to be very effective yet can be cleaned and sanitized easily. I'm still using a home-made copper diffuser that works "just ok" and it can't take caustic cleaners 'cuz it'll get eaten up! so I'm planning on picking up a stone. Don't wanna touch 'em once they're sanitized lest you add a bug to your wort!
The answer to the "time" question is simple: retired! After that, it's just a matter of planning so I can set aside every other Wednesday for brewing, and then I do two different batches as I really like ending up with a wide variety in the beer 'fridge. I run my "femto brewery" on MS Project and it keeps me on track on what needs to be done and when, otherwise I think I'd have gotten lost months ago

I envy you guys!! Home-brewing is something I have been wanting to do for years, BUT!
I developed an allergy to alcohol about 10-12 years ago,
I love the flavor of beer, I always have, I always will. and when I drank beer, it was for the flavor and the aromas, not for the buzz.
I would probably have a basement full of drunken buddies around here if I did start brewing, but not being able to taste and enjoy my own creations myself would be way too aggravating for me.
So, I plan to brew some of my own root-beer in the next few weeks. I have the glass carboys, I have stainless steel premix tanks from coca-cola, Co2 tanks, regulators, and taps, Plus I have a nearby supply of bottles and capping equipment too.
So when you guys are enjoying your wonderful homemade barley-pop, hoist one (or three) for me while I am stuck here sipping my lowly root-beer instead. _________________ Just remember that the toes you may step on during your climb to the top will also be attached to the a$$es you'll be forced to kiss on your way back down! |

Oh Harry! I'm so sorry about you being afflicted with such a horrible, horrible malady! That's tragic!
I had no idea such a thing was even possible! Frankly, just thinking about it is gonna give me nightmares tonight for sure!
Seriously, that sucks. I haven't been homebrewing for all that long but it's a blast. I'd seriously miss it. That - and wine with dinner. And a kicker with coffee...and....
Oh, man. It's all just too sad to comprehend _________________ Save the planet: it's the only one with beer!

snovalley that is a nice looking pale wort. Should end up with a nice light color. Love the keggle..........so nice and shiny . Nice to see another home brewer on here. Heck I would imagine there are enough of us to even support a home brew section of the forum.
In primary I have another batch of Belgian whit (my go to brew) that is ready to bottle and an experimental batch of cranberry-apfelwein
I currently have bottled a few bottles of Australian lager, a batch of blonde ale minus a few test bottles, and a dozen or so bottles of my last batch of Belgian whit.
Harry sorry to hear about your loss ...........but soda making is awesome as well. I just picked up another root beer kit to mix up with my little one to enjoy. _________________ "if you cant cook it in bacon grease it ain't worth eating"

My wife and I only do partials. I don't have the time or the storage space for all that is needed for all grain. We have a big annual "Caveman BBQ" coming up in July that I am going to start brewing for. I'm thinking a Pale Ale, and maybe a Hefe (quick turn around). Would be nice to be able to have all my own beer on tap (double tower rocks)! Currently have an ESB that needs to get racked into the secondary, and then get it ready for our homebrew competition in June. _________________ Brinkman SnP - with mods

Racked the ESB last weekend while smoking a brisket. Also brewed a Pale Ale with "Citra" hops. Probably will rack that tonight, and then brew another one for good measure! _________________ Brinkman SnP - with mods

Oh, man - I'm major jealous about the Citra hops. I had a Pale Ale done by my LHBS with Citra and it was wonderful - almost tasted like there was some grapefruit in there, a perfect brew for Summer! But they haven't had any Citra cones in their 'fridge for sale so far - I keep bugging them but I'm thinking I need to look elsewhere
In the mean time, my basement hit 73°F yesterday. Not good - I may be shutting down 'til the fall if this keeps up. I have a Stout and an IPA in primary that I had to use the wet towels on 'til it cooled down today...

It was Nugget for Bittering, then Citra at 20 to go, 10 to go, and 5 to go. One more oz of Citra for the dry hop in teh secondary! And just a basic pale ale malt base (i'm still all extract. Well steeping grains and usually DME). I have a big bbq in the summer, and I plan to have only my own beers on tap. Will have said ESB, the Pale ale (will make another batch tonight or tomorrow), a Hefe (quick turn around) and one more to be named later. But it will also need a quick turn around. Something that can go from primary to keg. Ideas? And nothing dark, needs to be ok in july heat. Maybe a dunkel... _________________ Brinkman SnP - with mods

How about a Hefeweizen? Wheat beers are easy enough to boil up and they turn around pretty quick - you could Corny keg and gas it up after a couple of weeks. And Hefe's are pretty tasty in mid-summer as well...

Don't even want to try to figure out if I totally missed it - or remembered it only subconsciously
Anyway...hmmm....I would say a Witbier or Weizenbier, but they're too close to the Hefe....How about a Kolsch? An ale that drinks like a lager. If brewed to style it's about as simple as it gets, and extract-only recipes abound on-line...
