I looked at the 610 model and read the reviews. It seems like a lot of people were using it to slice bread. I want it to slice meat - lots of meat. Plus I can't find the wattage for the motor for the chef choice. Ease of cleaning is one thing but if it sucks at slicing pit beef I wont use it no matter how easy it is to clean. _________________ The American Atomic Buffalo Turd Society of America

I have the Chef's Choice 610 like Reggae Q mentioned. I got it for Christmas but unfortunatly I have not got to use it . That being said, we bought it to slice up brisket and prime rib, but in the end there never seems to be anything left to slice! Now that the planting season is winding down I hope to get some smoking done and put it to use. I think the brother-out-law got it at Sears. _________________ "I grew up poor. It's 100 watt so yeah, the one you have might be better suited. In the reviews, I only saw 1 person saying they would like to have more power. Buy the one you have in your post and if you don't like it, I know somebody that will |

Interesting.
I was going to save my pennies and get a commercial grade slicer. But this may fill the bill until all of those pennies finally add up.
Monkey, if you do get it please let us know how it handles the different things you put through. I think i am starting to get carpal tunnel thingie from slicing all of my canadian bacon by hand. |

JMHO I would prefer to be a schmuck with a Fiddy to $100 granton edge slicer knife and mediocre technique & sharpening skills.. than to be a schmuck with a mediocre {or terrible} $100 slicer machine.
At least with the knife, you can learn to get better. With a mediocre machine, you learn {and teach your kids} stronger, more profane and creative expletives.
ALSO with the slicer knife, you have a Father & Kid bonding thing where you teach them to keep it sharp and make beautiful slices. If you play your cards right the gift keeps on giving... 5, 10, 15 years from now you send your kid out into the world with their own slicer knife... the same one they got you. "WTF Dad... thats the knife I got you for Fathers Day..." "Now you know what to get me for Fathers Day, I have had my eye on a new Henckle..... 20 years from now when your kid gets you a sweet knife... you will totally understand "
Yeah I know... meat slicers look so tempting. Someday I will get one, but its going to be a $500+ model. I could easily slice up $100 worth of Pastrami & Canadian Bacon the first time I use a meat slicer. That's why I am holding out, and saving for a better machine.
Some folks get a really nice slicer and dont use it very often. SO... consider how much your actually going to use it. The $100 model might be a perfect fit for your needs. _________________ Traeger 075 "Big Tex"

Thats all fine and dandy for, you.
And thats about it. Both of those slicers posted have some pretty damn good reviews. I seriously get pain in my cutting hand after cutting 30lbs of bacon. I still want to be able to use my hands 50 years from now. |

5 minutes after I read Aliens tip about the Tuesday Morning closeout.. I was at the store buying one. Half price isn't too bad. Worst case scenario, if its terrible on meat I have a $59 cabbage shredder. _________________ Traeger 075 "Big Tex"

| The 610 works great on meats and doesn't heat up and is easy to clean. |

I have a Waring PRO that has not seen a whole lot of use mainly because it’s a bit of a pain to clean up. Bits of meat or whatever I'm cutting get back behind the blade and into a small cavity that is hard to get into to clean. I have to say that it does a good job of cutting though.
For me, if I was to look for a replacement, I would check for ease of clean up. If it's a pain to clean you won't use it as often as you think. _________________ Homemade offset smoker 24"x48"

WPS 200 , I havent sliced meat with it yet.. I did slice some cheese.
It has a 130 watt motor. It wasnt terrible for $60. My first impression though is I am happy I didnt pay $130 for it. _________________ Traeger 075 "Big Tex"

Thanks for all the comments. I'm kind of on the fence about getting the slicer now. I think it would be nice to have but would only use it a few times a year. Of course as I'm typing this I have visions of homemade pit beef and smoked turkey being thinly sliced dancing in my head. _________________ The American Atomic Buffalo Turd Society of America

I have the 610 myself. Thought I bought it at Sam's online. Came with an extra blade (just for bread) to boot. I love it and even though I don't do 50 lbs of meat at a time it sure is nice when I do pastrami or Italian roast beef. As soon as I get my dehydrator this weekend I will start using it to cut fruits veggies and meats for that too. Easy to clean. Couldn't be happier. _________________ Joe D.
