Your dad needs a big pat on the back, he is one hard working son of a gun!
Congrats to both of you.

Jason, you won’t know until you get some brick and try… you will be laying brick with the best of them before you know it. Smile

Jarhead, thanks for the kind words. I don't think it's big enough for a whole one... maybe a small one. How much space do you need to smoke a small pig?

Killswitch my man, Dad was a pipe layer for forty years or so... so I guess he can lay pipe with the best of them... I was a pipe layer also... like father, like son. Laughing

More build pics!

Inside fire box.

With door Cool

Drying fires began today and will continue until Sunday Cool ... A real fire next week. Shocked

What a Awesome Project for a Son AND Father to Undertake !!!!!
This has to be nothing but Great Memories for the both of you !!!!
As for laying Pipe..........I spent 17 yrs in Phoenix , Doing Water , Sewer and Storm Drains ???
And the Wife wonders why I talk to myself........and then Answer!

Hey Guys,
I have been working on other projects and the project has slowed a bit. Dad has just completed chimney #3 Shocked Shocked Shocked . Number 2 had some footing issues... so down it went. We are waiting on the welder to finish the lid and we will fire it up!

Day_trippr, Thanks for the kind words.... I think you might have jinxed us. Shocked ... Laughing Laughing Laughing

Roscoe1960, Thanks man… Dad and I are having a great time building this pit! Very Happy

WesTexBBQ, Thanks! We think so too. Wink

Tim Abrahamson, What’s a blueprint? Shocked ... Copy anything you need to. If you have a question, feel free to send me a pm. Wink

Pullit, Thanks and you are right! Dad is one of the best from the old school and is the hardest working guy I’ve ever seen! Anyone that knows him will tell you the same. Cool

Smokermatt, Thanks for the kind words. Cool

K.a.m., clone away my friend and we will help anyway we can. Very Happy

Cdn, Thank you… she is getting there! Cool

Erniesshop, Great to hear from a fellow pipe layer! We did a lot of Sewer and Storm Drains.
You are on the money! This build is full of great memories! And Thanks for the post. Very Happy

Here is a few pics of the pit these days.

Start of chimney 3

Dad and this tree have been fighting through all three chimneys. Laughing

I give you... CHIMNEY #3!!.... (can you hear the angels singing) Laughing Laughing Laughing

Kevin,
I'm glad you like it Cool

patruns,
It would look like it was at home in a church yard. Laughing

Big Ron,
Thanks, and I'm looking forward to trying your rub. Cool

Goldenboy,
Thanks for the kind words and taking a look at her! Wink

7swansasmokin,
Thank you, Dad and I are having a great time with the build. Very Happy I hope to have more good times cooking with him. Wink

On to the build,
I've seen better times when it comes to welding. The old drum Dad wanted for a lid faught me and anyone that was helping me, all the way! Thanks to Eric S. and Kevin M. for all the help and welding advice. Very Happy I'm not happy with the lid. I hope I can build another one over the winter... next time no drum.

Dad and I... I'm under the "drum of silence". Laughing

The test fit.

Dad and his lid. Shocked

More pics soon! Wink

We sealed up the door today… it was a nice tight fit Laughing . Dad added a new walkway and bench for those hard days of cooking, eating and drinking…. I wish this thing had some shade and a beer cooler Laughing … I’ll talk to the boss about it.

chuckied, what did you use to attach the seal to the door? Is that epoxy or what?

This is a great build, and an even better story with you and your dad.

Thanks.
