What's the best/fastest way to remove the smell of cigarette smoke from my apartment? I live in a small studio apartment. The previous tenant was a cigarette smoker. ow can I remove the smell of cigarette smoke from my apartment? My "carpet" is an indoor/outdoor type deal so it's very short and probably doesn't hold too much odor.

I dunno - wash the whole place down with tomato juice?
Not sure you understand that this place is not a nicotine enthusiast group - per se
[In case anyone was wondering what that other post might have been:
"How does smoking affect a teenagers height growth? If a teenager smokes cigarettes, can it completly stop the growing process? I haven't felt growing pains since I started smoking years ago, could I stay at my current height (pretty short) my whole life if I smoke throughout the growth process? Help! Best answer to the most helpful information."]
Cheers - and good luck! _________________ Save the planet: it's the only one with beer!

binaxa,
I will begin my reply with a word of caution, but here it is, fwiw:
Go out and buy you a good smoker, considering the fact you are in a "small studio apartment", a decent offset or a Weber Smoker Mountain will probably be a good choice. While purchasing your smoker, also purchase a couple of bags of good lump charcoal(avoid cowboy brand-it is shizzle) and a couple bags of wood chunks. Next go to your local meat market and get you a nice boston butt, a couple racks of spare ribs, and the seasonings(rubbs) of your choice. Oh yeah, forgot to mention it, but grab yourself a charcoal chimney when you get your smoker. When you get home, cover the meat with a layer of cheap yellow mustard and apply a good coating of rubb. Next set your cooker up in the middle of the apartment. Fill the firebox/basket with charcoal mixed with a few wood chunks. Fill the charcoal chimney about 1/2 full and light it up. When it gets hot, dump it in your cooker. Once your cooker gets settled in around the 225°-250° range, Place the meat on the racks. Now as far as exact technique for cooking, you will probably spend a lifetime on this site trying to figure out things like wheter to foil or not, sauce or no sauce, what type of sauce, etc. Anywho, after a couple of good cooks on your new found obcession, you will hardly even notice the cigarette smell at all. _________________ Propane is for frying, not Que!

Put out some small dishes of white vinegar. It will absorb the smell. If you happen to rent a "rug doctor" type carpet scrubber, add some vinegar to the water used to scrub the carpet.
You can also scrub the walls with a vinegar solution, but don't do it over wallpaper, as the vinegar will loosen the adhesive. _________________ Mark

I am thinking this would have been better asked of the landlord before you moved in.
Surprised they did not do a thorugh cleaning before you moved in. _________________ Joe D.

| First get yourself a bit batch of roxy's mustard sauce cooking, then right about when it reaches a boil, lean over and take in a big deep breath. This always takes care of any nasal irritation I'm experiencing |

Ozone generator... Works wonders for all smells including those left behind from "well seasoned" cadavers...
Used to use the machines a LOT in a former job...

Start smoking you wont smell a THING
You need to use an oil based primer like kilz or zepper
It will seal the smell in all the walls and ceilings.
Then paint over. You'll be in good shape after that. |

Don't need paint, just vinegar in a small bowl in each room that smells. It will absorb the "aroma" nicely & not linger.
Then when you have time, repaint, but when you do, it will need Kilz (the oil based one only, not the water based one) to cover the nicotine & odor.
But to get rid of the odor, it just takes vinegar. About a gallon will do for quite some time. _________________ Mark

An ozone generator is the same thing hotels do for smoked in Hotel rooms, or for pet accidents. Most all Colorado Hotel rooms, particularly in mountain towns are smoked in. We have a particular type of smoker that specifically ask for non-smoking rooms.... these types do not characterize what they do as a form of smoking.
Speaking of the non-smoking smokers... a Hydroponic store should carry ozone generators in the $150 - $200 price point, and industrial strength odor absorbing gels for about $15. A local growing operation that shared the same ventilation system with the Census office next door could have used both. _________________ Traeger 075 "Big Tex"
