I just saw these and thought it may be a pretty good idea

I have a brinkmann SnP

would the temp stay steady throughout the cook?

if so this would allow you to do more than just watch the fire all day

I use a log lighter myself, not for heat per se, but to get the fire going. it really helps out with longer cooks, and on rainy, windy, or cold days to get the fire going! Very Happy Smaller pit are really harder to maintain proper temp. I had a New Braunfels similar to yours, and the lighter really helped make it a more enjoyable tool to use.

I fire up the log lighter, add a few logs, and 20 minutes later I'm Smokin'! Very Happy

here are some results from my SnP with the afterbiurner H.

and as you can see the wood in the can makes plenty of smoke.

I like it for the long cooks like butts/shoulders. It is also good in the winter time when trying to keep the temp is steady is hard. But the clean up is a breeze and it really keeps the temp nice and steady. You still have to keep an eye on the fire as the wind could and does blow the flame out sometimes. But you will have the smoke ring and your flavor and 5 second cleanup.
I think I might do some ribs for the boys at work this week.
Hope this helps if you are thinking of getting one.
