Alien,

Where would I get a charcoal pan like the one that you have on the first picture? Is it simply a metal mixing bowl that you drilled holes in?

Thanks for the wonderful tutorial!

I have an old pasta collander that the handles fell off. I bet that would make a nice charcoal basket?

A little tired of answering the same ol' questions Alien?? Very Happy

I have noticed since I have been here, many newbies, tend to ask questions without checking for past discussions. I'm sure I did the same thing, but I just find it happens a lot here.

That happens a lot on any forum. Best thing to do is direct them to old threads that answer their question.

It is inevitable, though. I forget to "search" sometimes, too.

Alien,

Thanks, that was great. Just two quick questions:

1. What is the advantage to using the charcoal pan?

2. What kind of materials can you use for a charcoal pan? I'm assuming that was some sort of salad bowl. Does it matter what kind of steel?

Thanks again!

The bowl is a heavy duty 8 qt. stainless steel mixing bowl I drilled holes in. I picked it up a target for $8. And no, I am not tired of answering questions.... but like they say, a picture is worth a thousand words.

Well maybe its just my computer guys but any time I have tried using the search mode for a specific subject, it gives me everything and anything I haven't asked for, usually a lot of recent threads pertaining to nothing specificly asked for.... Sad I know we all get tired of answering the same questions, but there are a lot of threads to look for something when someone just wants a quick answer. Smile

Hey Louie, how ya been? Very Happy

The idea is that you drop some lit coals into the pipe, then add the wood chunks on top.

I think you will need a bigger version for the Lang. Lots of metal to heat up with those cookers. A small basket for lit charcoal should do the job.
