Looking for a rib rub that is savory.
not so much spicy or to sweet. I like garlic powder
and dont like ground cumin. Ive tried best odds rib rub

1/3 cup paprika
3 tablespoons dry mustard
3 tablespoons onion powder
3 tablespoons garlic powder
2 tablespoons ground basil
1 tablespoon red pepper
1 tablespoon black pepper
1 tablespoon salt

and liked it. ive also used famous daves and
thought it was ok. And i tried mixing up some oklahoma joe's rib rub

Ingredients
2 tablespoons granulated sugar
1 tablespoon packed brown sugar
1 1/2 teaspoons garlic powder
1 1/2 teaspoons chili powder
1 1/2 teaspoons paprika
1 1/2 teaspoons ground cumin
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon onion powder
1 teaspoon white pepper
1 teaspoon ground black pepper

and thought it smell WAY to much like cumin.
Any Ideas?

If you don't like sugar or cumin, just reduce their amounts or take the ingredient out altogether.

Yeah have to agree with Pit Boss. Do it the way you want it and then change things to perfect it.

Chili powder has LOTS of cumin in it. In fact, when I smell chili powder, that's what I smell. So, having both chili powder and cumin is like having double of the cumin (not quite, but you get the drift.). My pork rub has no cumin but I have 2 Tbsp of chili powder, out of probably 2 1/2-3 cups. I go through a lot of rub, so I make a lot at a time. I like sweet rubs, but that's just me.
