Yes sir I do, how did you find us?

"Online".

That's great, then you have seen the pics that we have at our events section.

"Well how much is it".

For catering or pig only?

"Well, I want to buy the pig and cook it myself. It's for dad's 80th B-Day and he wants it cooked at the house".

That sounds great sir, we only offer cooked pigs.

Please contact your local meat market and they will sell you what you are looking for.

What are you cooking it on?

"Oh, I got a big cooker, it's a 55 gallon drum".

I'd be careful, a grease fire might ruin dad's day sir.

"Ok, well thanks for the information".

If you change your mind, please call us back. We are well known for our pig roasts and on-time reliable service............................

Disclaimer- the above is for venting and entertainment purposes only, and has (mostly) no redeeming value.

"It'll be $600 and I'll even throw in 2 free bags of charcoal!"

That would have been a much more rewarding answer Very Happy Shocked

Funny Dan! Laughing

A 50 pounder DWD...............................

The moral of the story (for me) is that even though I probably will not get this job, it doesn't hurt to be friendly.

I pointed the guy in the right direction to a meat market in his area.

I also explained that renting a cooker (gas fired) would not produce a smoked pig and would then add to the cost (pimping my services, naturally).

That's when I found out about the cooker he already owned.

Furthermore, helping the guy out might lead to work down the road.

It is frustrating when folks call a caterer for pig only, and a raw one at that........................................

I get 2 or 3 calls each summer from people thinking I sell butchered pigs. I do as BBQMan did, offer my advice, tell them who to call, offer to arragne the order, purchase and delivery (for a fee of course), discuss cooking techniques and even try to rent my smoker (not my catering smoker...I have a "Carolina" style 275 gal tank cooker on an axle) that I bought specifically for renting. Usually, they turn down all attempts to get some of their money...but every once in a while, they decide it is worth their money to at least have me involved in some fashion if nothing else to pick my brain.

I also got a frantic call last year on an early Sunday morning asking if I had a spare spit for a 200 lb pig! The one they had was broken. I suggested a machine shop that I have had work done before to fix the broken one...until I was told...no, the pig is on the spit NOW, hanging over the fire....right NOW!!! I offered to rush my rental pit to her, but other than that, I had no way to help her out. To this day, I am not sure what they did because they turned me down on the rental pit!

You get all kinds in this biz!

Good one Mike...

There's a guy in our area that makes commercial BBQ sauce and the name of his sauce is Old Mule. He told me recently about all the calls he gets from folks wanting to buy a real, live mule. FUNNY indeed!
