| Heard an interview with LeeAnn and she mentioned that there were only 8 shows. The Johnny Trigg Rib Shootout was the last one for the season. Glad to hear that they are shooting again, hope they pick it up again. |

I expect the producers will try to swap out some of the "lesser lights" if they do another season.
Meanwhile, Myron is boning up on a whole new crop o' expletives to be deleted

I saw posted on another forum that the Producer said "they didn't make their numbers" so there won't be a season 2.
But I'd still expect him to try to sell it to another network. |

that is disappointing...I know that I had people mention it to me all the time, people I would have never thought would be watching a bbq tv show...Oh well. I hope someone picks it up. I wonder what the numbers were? |

I too have had more BBQers crawling out of the woodpile and making themselves known.
The difficulty with the format appears to me to be that they include time with either some or all of the teams while in preparation or they were staging several scenes with each one heading out to the different contests, or they actually were trekking all over the country to do the follow outs.
I would like to see it continue, but I'd also like for the producers to be a little more proactive, not do so much of the "here we are at home" stuff, and pick 12 contests across the country, contact the organizers, and get teams that wont the exposure, (and which teams don't... that's a shorter list I'd think), and film that 6 - 8 teams at that contest, butting out when told to, getting the film when they can, I'd think you could then cover "most" of the action.
One of the bits I thought was lacking last season was at the awards ceremony's, I know they'd have needed releases etc, but what good does it do to show all the "chosen" cooking teams sat on their asses, while other names are called for those 1st place category slots and the RGC and GC, to me that last 5 minutes was nearly a total waste of time, but it could be used to put faces to other crews that actually had done well at that contest.
I know I'm just being a Monday morning editor, but if the numbers weren't there what could be the reasons? I know out here there were a number of church people who wouldn't watch it for the language, and right or wrong that's a chunk of the demographic that was lost.
I understand that a word here or there may slip out of the foul side of my mouth, but hey enough is enough already.
There are millions of back yarders and thousands of competitive teams who could be part of the shows demographic, that might have watched and pushed the numbers up, but for the most part, if you've been to a contest, the prep you do to go, and the set up, cook and tear down are the same ol same ol.
Even if you've not been to a contest, how many times do you need to see it?
So what would I like... I think if they catered more to the current BBQ audience, instead of trying to appeal to the masses that don't cook competitively month in month out, perhaps if they looked to those that do, it would give them a stronger base to build off.
Even things that the teams were happy to share, such as foil or no foil?
Slather or not, commercial or home made rubs, sauce or no sauce, they don't need to give the specific of what they use if they don't want to, but I'd be riveted to run those stats through the little gray cells, and see if there is a winning pattern that emerges?
Any one else like them thinkies? _________________ Here's a change Robert.

I like what you are saying SoEzzy. I think, like other cooking type shows, they should NOT be afraid of sharing their ingredients or even hints at techniques... I think those things would keep people interested and coming back, but I doubt they would suddenly become serious competition for the folks in these shows.
if they cannot do that, lets just see Myron go head to head with Robert Irvine - first in a cookoff, then in a ring! |

I think that probably Myron, Tuffy, and Trigg worked for the show. The other guys didnt. Not because of their abilities, but because they aren't interesting in front of a camera. Maybe Whippin worked, maybe not. I dont think that you get to tell the camera when to butt out if you want to be on the show so the list of teams wanting the exposure when they know what they are giving up gets gets shorter than you think. The BBQ people dont get to call the shots. They dont get to say dont film this or can you leave or anything like that. They do what they do and the camera guys film it.
I have also heard the criticism that the teams on the show didnt always win. I think to give people the payoff they can't really work within the confines of a typical contest. They need one of their people to win each week and that means having contests with just the pitmaster teams...and this isnt a how to show or a cooking show..it is reality tv and is based on drama and friction. If they make a show for BBQ people it goes on the VS. network, it gets one season and about 1000 people watch it. |

But does it have to be that way?
I hear what you are saying but there sure is a whole lot of those items that could be worked out a head of time, there could also be some stock shots used, the Joe Smoe shaking a generic rub over some ribs, butts etc, but those that are willing could say so and show what they want.
If you look at the information about rubs, sauces, etc that was on the show, most of the folks were using no name shakers to apply rub, we might think we know what was really in them, but do we have much to prove it? No we don't!
I wish I had the time, money, equipment and skills to put a pilot together... but I'm sure I don't have at least 3 out of the 4! _________________ Here's a change Robert.
