Well, I have been reading this site for a few months now and got the urge to build a UDS for myself. So I enlisted the old man and his tools/shop and we put one together. He had the barrel and I went and bought all the other parts. I got one of those cheapo Big Lots grills and used its parts, as well as pipes and caps and ball valve. I also stole someones idea for the thermometer, I used a nut and bolt type thing w/ a hole in the middle and slid a 12" turkey fryer therm into it and locked it in.

Here are the photos of the build.

The barrel w/ a little red and white dynamite on top.

Charcoal basket and cooking grate in place. You can see the backside of the thermometer set up in this one.

Almost finished product.

To finish this up, I painted it w/ a high heat Rust-o-leum silver paint. Pics soon to come. Being from Kansas, I thought it appropriate to name it the Tin Man Smoker because it looks like the Tin Man from the Wizard of Oz. This was so easy, I will definitely be making more of these in the future w/ different tweaks to them. Please give me constructive criticism and feedback on how I did. Thanks guys. Go Jayhawks!!

Also, I know this has been brought up before but how do I post the pictures directly to the post I am writing? I went to the link about using photobucket and that's what I did but I would like to be able to post the photo directly onto the forum. Thanks again.

Mostly, you just have to add the img and /img tags immediately before and after each image url (no intervening spaces). AND add a carriage return after each /img tag so the pictures will stack vertically and not horizontally.

Also, you need to remove "?action=view&current=" from the links. There's probably a way to copy links without that but I don't use photobucket to host my images.

So if I take your last picture link, delete the "?action=view&current=", stick the img tag in front and the /img tag in back: voila!

Cheers! Very Happy
