Lately I have been mixing my own. It's the only way to go if you like to experiment.

One of the many sources for bulk spices: http://www.spicebarn.com/

i mix up my own, its a salt based mix i give the meat a good sprinkling of it, enough to see the color of the seasoning, let it sit for about 15 min then rub it down with brown sugar andprocede to cook the ribs then...mighty good

That looks like a better source than the one I was told about. Looks like they sell in smaller quantities than ICA http://www.memphi.net they are more for the commercial buyer.

I like using LOTS(don't be shy he makes more) of Big Ron's H.O.H., and at the end using Roxy's mop the last hour.

Hint of sweet on top and a little heat at the meat!!

I just use Tones Canadian + Paprika, and sometimes + Treager "veggie" shake.

I havent mixed my own... yet. I recently got a huge variety of spices at our local Boutique Health Food Grocery type place. {Like Whole Foods} In the Bulk Spice section. The bulk spices are priced VERY well for the being as good, fresh and aromatic as they are. very competitive with the commercial stuff you buy in the grocery store actually.. Wink Also look for Maple sugar in the specialty sugar & syrup section.

Very good advice! I make all my own rubs because salt is often the main ingredient in commercial products- not that I object to salt, just the amounts used. My rib rub has raw sugar, paprika and chili powder in equal amounts, cinnamon and cayenne pepper. For more heat I add more cayenne. The best way to come up with a rub you like IMO is to research and experiment until you have something you like. If it tastes good, it is good! Very Happy
