it is just a water heater blanket. hopefully it will help hold the heat in on the all nighters.

MMMM fiber glass. I'd remove that from the lid so particles do not fall on your food when you lift it off. You really dont need that shiny fluffy stuff on there Laughing It gets mighty cold up here in the winter. The only thing I have to do is open up a second intake if really cold. I use a bit more fuel but still never have had to add fuel or monitor temp once it is rolling along even in temps that are below zero with the wind chill.

I'd also think the edge of the blanket that's wrapped around the barrel would need to be sealed / duct taped so no fibers from exposed edge get in.

great idea, you can pick up aluminum hvac tape usually at your local hardware store or at Lowes/Home Depot. I would seal the edges of the insulation with the tape. I hope this helps.

well this worked great. at first i had to fight to keep temps below 300. i had to take the insulation off the top and almost shut it down to get the temp to lower down to 230-250. i cooked 4 butts over night for 12 hrs in the snow and didnt have to touch anything. i think that with this blanket on there it might cook for 48 hrs. i shut it complety down at 4:00 am and at 9:00 am it was still at 120 degrees. usually it drops in about an hr.
