|

I've been learning quite a bit from this board, and I think it's time I upgraded from my Brinkmann El Cheapo to a Chargriller SnP with the side box. (can't think of a better way to spend my b-day money )
I just got done searching previous posts, and I can't seem to find the mods page...I've seen it PM'd, and I was wondering if someone could send it to me?

Cool, thanks
I had actually bookmarked that thread, but I thought there was one with pics. The charcoal holder "inverting" and the fsb basket mod had me confused...I guess it will make sense once I have the smoker here.
I'll have to find happy home for my Brinkmann _________________ In search of the perfect smoke ring... |

2 different mods. Inverting the charcoal pan is in the main cooking chamber. Really easy, just turn it over, and hang it so the curve matches the pass through from the fire box.
The baskets are an additional purchase, I got mine directly form Char-Griller. Then I hung them, using threaded rod. I no longer have the coal rack or grill in the fire box.
Good Luck |

Sledge.
I haven't gone for the baskets yet. What are your burn times like using them? _________________ Love the voodoo that Q do.

Ya gotta get the baskets, you can make your own, get some expanded metal from home depot and some angle brackets. Dont forget the angle. and I was also directed to another link by other members here.

I did a turkey on Friday night, loaded them up, got the fire going in the front right corner. Held 260-270 for 4 1/2 hour. I went to bed, and she was still chugging. That was with the Royal Oak briquetts I bought by mistake (crap by the way). I did a couple racks of spares at Xmas with lump, just about got them done without refueling. I found the key was to hang them for just below the door, that way the fire never gets choked with ash. those Royal Oak briquettes make about 50% more ash than Kingsford. Add nice flavor though.
Get em, only $20 for Char-Griller |

Christmas has arrived!
Got the Super Pro with a FSB, new charcoal chimney (to replace my ghetto coffee cans), and a cover
Haven't really modded yet, still seasoning it...I did use the large grate (w/ small grate on top) in the fb, added 2 more thermos, and a couple hooks to hang my tools on. I am impressed with how stable the temps are in this thing compared to my ECB. _________________ In search of the perfect smoke ring... |

I came up with a question, but didn't want to start a new thread on it...For heat retention, I've read that lining with foil works, as does ceramic briquettes. Would using both be overkill? I figure the heat relection of the foil woild compliment the heat retention of the 'quettes...am I way off, or does it sound feasable?
This is my first foray into the offsets, so I'm sure I'll come across many more ?'s (though the posted links are proving very helpful) _________________ In search of the perfect smoke ring... |

The foil really just aids in clean up, I don't use it. It is so thin and aluminum is a great condutor of heat that is won't help the temps much. The ceramic briquettes are great. I just dumped a whole bag in the bottom, lose a whole lot less heat that way. Another thing you can use are fire bricks. I have read some people wrap those in foil, but again, just to help keep it clean.
I should really clean my cooker |
