No truth to the rumor Harold. It will be held July 9 & 10.

Thanks Jim! I won't say who told me but I'm glad it didn't change. We had a good time at the Ohio Veterans Comp last year and plan to enter again this year. They meet every team with a warm welcome and put on a very good show in Dayton, Ohio.

Thanks Harold. It was great having you and your team there and we'll be looking forward to seeing you again this year.

Is there any reason that the website reflects last year's comp and is not updated? And why isn't it on the current KCBS comp calendar?

I had a good time there in 2008, missed last year, but would love to judge there this year. I just need good (and current) information.

Sure there's a reason Jimmie. There's a reason for everything.

And the reason it isn't on the KCBS website site yet is obviously because the people at KCBS have not put it on there yet.

Glad you had a good time in 2008 and it sounds like the old cabin fever might be getting to you just a little Jimmie. As one of the two originators and organizers of this contest, that's about as good and current as you're going to get in the way of information.

But the event's website itself doesn't reflect the 2010 comp. Is that KCBS' fault as well?

I'm not trying to be difficult. I'm just making the statement that many of us are getting our schedules together for judging, competing, and other vacation time. If an event's organizers wait too long to post accurate information, they may lose potential competition teams, judges, and visitors.

What other comps are you going to judge this year Jimmie? You going to judge the Oink again? How about the Brick Street BBQ in Marietta? We haven't decided if we are going to cook the Ohio Veteran's comp yet, probably wait and see how the year goes. We'll be in 4 comps before July, so if we have some winnings by then we may just do some travelling.

Sorry if I misunderstood you but from the message you posted, I thought you wanted reasons why the website was not updated and why it was not on the KCBS website yet.

On the other hand, boss284 posted a simple question, received a simple answer and he knows the information I gave him is both 'good and current' as you put it in your post. He did not ask why the website was not updated or why the event was not listed on the KCBS website yet.

I have cooked and judged contests for the last eight years and organized for the last four years and I am fully aware of the consequences that can be incurred by not having a website updated with current information. I also know that the teams and judges that regularly attend our event all know how to get in touch with me if they cannot find the information they need online.

We strive to run a great event for an even greater cause and we work long and hard to make sure the people that come to Kettering want to come back year after year. Despite our efforts, two complaints keep coming back to haunt us. The most frequently heard is that our people are constantly asking the teams if they need anything. The other complaint we get is inconsistent judging. We're not working very hard to resolve the first issue but I can tell you in regards to the inconsistent judging, we are taking extra steps to screen the CBJ's and make sure we are getting the most even keeled and unbiased judges on the circuit.

I like Kettering a lot. Oinktoberfest and Nelsonville are almost certainties as well. Other than that, I am now scouring the KCBS schedule to find any other comps within comfortable (5 hours or less) driving time. For this year, it will be all judging, no competing.

You may be able to run, but you won't be able to hide. Wink I'm sure I'll see you somewhere.

Forget me, then. I only like pork, beef, and chicken. Wink

Now that I know the dates, I'll watch out for updates on KCBS or the event's website to sign up for judging.

Jimmie,

There is a great looking new contest just a few miles west of the Ohio state line in Eastern Indiana at the Brookville Lake resort area near the town of Liberty. This is just West of the Dayton contest. It will be on May 1st and 2nd which is a Saturday/Sunday contest. Just $150 entry, $3000 purse, plenty of room for all rigs, hot showers, electric and water. The organizer has applied for the Proclamation so it should be a State Championship. Should be a very cooker friendly contest.

Jimmie, I'm going to try to have the website updated in the next week or if you want to PM me with your email, I can send you a CBJ application.

Jim, thanks.

Now that I know the dates, I'll watch out for the website to be updated. I look forward to this comp. Nice venue. Nice people. Good time of year in Ohio to be in the shade watching a comp and drinking beer.

Jim,

I told you I wanted to judge, so here we go.

Girl on left:
Appearance - 8
Tenderness - 9
Taste - ? Wink

Girl on right:
Appearance - 9
Tenderness - 9
Taste - ? Wink

Wait, on second thought, both are DQ. There are not six "separate and identifiable" samples. And they both seem to be "forming their meat"; clear violations of KCBS rules. Very Happy
