I finally finished my "hybrid pig cooker" the only other modification will be a charcoal basket and a temp gauge for the box. I figured a way to use my remote thermometer while rotating.(pictured)
I was able to enlist a few of my students to do some of the machining so it kept the costs way down and the powdercoater we use at work did a high temp black for free.
My Brother in law (wooddog22) and I will be cooking a pig to kick of summer.

There's some seriously impressive stuff going on in that rig, Awning Guy! Yikes! Beautiful fabrication work all around, and some ingenious design details as well (I really like your solution for monitoring the meat temperature from the spit - very simple, very smart! A tip o' the fedora at you for that one!)
My favorite pic is the one with your collie in the cooker waiting patiently for his portrait shot. Good dog!
I 'spect we're gonna see some impressive product coming off that rig soon!

Very nice! Having access to a CNC mill is cheating though. |

Awning Guy, That is simply awsome! I can't wait to try it out! Nice milling machine. Strong work on the design and the temp gauge system is ingenious! Let's do a Piggy. How big can we go! Does that thing have a Turbo charger?

Well no turbo but it will turn 6.53 rpm wide open. I figured the total torque to be at 315 foot lbs. So we can turn more hog than the legs of this thing will hold up. we'll do a #50-75, we don't want to show off or anything. _________________ First Build

Keep your eyes on the "other smoked foods" section. You gotta keep your options open. _________________ First Build

I like the roof/ top on this one. The machine work is great. If you got the tooling you should use it! Good to see you sharing your trade! Have you fired that thing up yet??? I'm hungry. _________________ Put your hand back in your pocket and earn it. |
