Hey all,
I'm wanting to build a smoker out of an old standing freezer i have out in the garage but don't know how to go about it. I don't want to cold smoke, so i'm not supposed to have any plastic inside, right? Here's what I was thinking, but i don't know if it would work. The inside of the freezer is mostly plastic, so i was thinking that there might possibly be some type of heat resistant coating that i could use to spray a few layers on the inside, and that would prevent the plastic from heating up and emitting any noxious fumes. Is this even an option, or do you basically just need an all metal fridge in order for it to work. Im open to any suggestions.....Thanks |

| My 2 cents ?? ( DONT DO IT ! ) .. not a good idea ... maybe if you remove the plastic and sheet it with some 16 gauge metal ?? But that may be tough to do ?? |

I will be covering this topic in a project in late summer. The bottom line is to gut the plastic out of it. I will be building a insert when the project gets going. More to come....... _________________ https://www.linkedin.com/in/michaeloberry |

It is easier to start with a old steel fridge, or something more suitable lika a water tank! _________________ BBQMAN

| Id say- like an old Enamel coated 50's vintage (SO2-Sulphur Dioxide). Those had the TATER drawer below and no plastics |

hvac81...
Yup, just like 'Ya said...
Mine is a 1951 G.E. Fridgadaire ...gutted ,reinsulated ,sealed and re-assemled.
It started out as a charcoal burner but that changed to natural gas when the pork shoulder sleepless nights came around!
This is the 3rd unit I've built and they just keep getting better
with improvements.
Hey...nobody complains about the food that comes out of that
cooker ,either!
Best Regards, Tony |
