On my first UDS I used a high temp paint. At Wally World the other day(charcoal coupon run) I was looking at their paint selection. They have such a wide variety of types, textures and colors to chose from. I was wondering if anyone has used regular spray paint and have it hold up. I know they can get hot but not like when burning the barrel out and flames going up the side.

Just wondering..........what else am I to do? -20 plus again tonight and just watching "Have Gun Will Travel" marathon. I enjoy seeing some of the actors in these. A young Charlie Bronson and Dyan Cannon in the one on now. Thanks

I don't think it will hold up very long. I would go with the hi-temp version to be safe. I don't like stripping all over again to save a few bucks.

You can get engine paint at an auto store good to 1200 F, they often have grill paint too, but only in black that's good to 600 F.

Why mess with the ordinary paint, it all costs about the same.

I thought the same. It's just that they had so much to choose from. You could get a hammered look, camo....... just about anything. You could have a cool looking UDS. Engine paint does come in different colors I know. Thanks guys

FYI Hitempcoatings.com. I have looked into them but not yet used them.
Sherman Williams is the distributor.

I went to the John Deere dealer and picked up a couple cans of Muffler Black. Its high temp and pretty reasonable price wise.
