| are you saying it won't sync at all, or just not at 50'? how does it perform at 10' or 20'? you have anything blocking direct line of site? |

it will sinc up sitting next to the main unit after awhile. but when it was about 50' away sitting in my house. through a block wall it would not update. when i went to check on it the smoke chamber temp went to 350'.
now the unit shows HHH and won't show a temp. |

| i dont think it works through block walls, I'm pretty sure it says that in the manual. but windows, yes. i had mine on the inside of my 2nd floor window, worked fine through the night. |

I have generally found 25 or so feet was the limit.....and windows are a very good thing. My guess is that the smoker temp probe may be fried.......and you may need a replacement. However, dumb question, but have you tried turning it off and restarting? _________________ Dinger |

Hi,
I have had the same challenges with my Maverick. First the standard thermometers that come with them are only designed to handle smoker temps. My Diamond Plate will also grill. I burned my "smoker" thermometer up the first time I used it.
Maverick also offers a "heavy duty" thermometer & cable. The cable on the heavy version is much thicker, handles much hotter temps. and is 6' long. I got two, and they are working fine, although you can still get hot enough to burn them up.
Second, my Maverick does not work in my house a large amount of the time. Want work at all down stairs. There are multiple sheet rock walls between my smoker & kitchen which apparently is borderline for the transmitting capability of the unit. Yesterday I put the "remote" in my garage so I could check temp by just opening the door & peeking out, not a perfect solution but better than having to walk all the way to the smoker. _________________ Carpe Diem! & break out the smoker & cooler while you're at it! |

Seems to be many problems with these probes.
The meat probe on mine just started to constantly measure over 170 deg all of the time.
I plugged the smoker probe into each side (smoker & meat) to check, and it registers correctly...
I guess that I will just pop for the heavy duty probes mentioned above.
EDIT: I cannot seem to find any heavy-duty probes listed on Maverick's site... If someone could post a link, it would be appreciated. |

As I recall I found something in the literature that came with my Maverick that mentioned the heavy duty probes.
I don't think I found them on line either. I believe I just called Maverick or whoever the manufacturer is (from the info. with my Maverick).
Another thing is there is only one type of heavy duty unit. It is curved like the original food thermometer. According to whoever I talked to the one unit works equally well to replace either or both of the ones that come with the original package. I use my two heavy duties in either receptacle with no apparent problems. _________________ Carpe Diem! & break out the smoker & cooler while you're at it! |
