Just dragged the trash to the curb and was listening to all the ice cracking on the trees. Yes, I am under an Ice Storm Warning tonight. Followed tomorrow by tons of rain, wind, and snow melt. Its going to be a nasty holiday as far as weather goes.
I know this storm is huge. How is it going to affect you? Any changes in cooking plans? I am still going to attempt to smoke up some spares for Christmas Eve despite 40 mph winds and heavy rain. Probably have to finish in the oven if it gets too wet.
Christmas Day I have two hams I have to toss on the smoker along with some beans and sausages for appetizers. No choice on this. No room inside. I hope...I really hope the rain eases up Christmas Day. I'm not messing with the turkey. Not as forgiving as a pre-cooked ham. Moving that bird into the oven. Wanted to pull out the CI and try to cook up what I could outside on the gasser to avoid a mess but may not be able to do that.
So...anyones plans change due to the weather? Anyone in the Midwest/ Plains still planning on firing up the cookers for the holiday? |

Started the fire in my Stumper clone about 6 this evening. Pit up to temp in about a hour or so. Four flats, one packer, six slabs of babies, three racks of spares (trimmed), the spare trimmings and two butts are purring along. Have almost two #'s of hot links and two fatties going on in the wee hours. Talked to family within the last hour-no one coming for dinner. Most have to travel 100+ miles and if the weather does what it is supposed to do I would rather cancel dinner and we can all get together later. Anyone hungry? Thank goodness for the vacuum sealer.
Merry Christmas everyone.

Six inches of snow here since 4:00pm central. Started sleeting @ 10pm. Now 11:30 and it's raining. WTF?? Welcome to Wisconsin winter. Hope it clears up by Sunday, for that's gonna be my cook day. _________________ ~Joe

So far only 3" of fresh, but expecting a total of 12-16 by Sat. I guess I'll be playing with my motorized snow removal toys.
My next smoke is New Years, Fatties for throwdown and a butt just because. _________________ I was taught to respect my elders. It's just getting harder to find them.

All right. Anyone who is in the 50s needs to invite me over for dinner
No really, everything is covered in ice. Its not doing anything now...calm before the storm?
I'm going to follow through with my plans. Should be interesting...ribs are going on soon. |

| I cancelled traveling for Christmas. We are getting hammered with snow. I hope that the weather breaks for our New Year Q. The NOAA Gurus are saying we drop into the deep freeze after this bout of snow. k.a.m. I betcha your smoker would double as a tornado shelter in a pinch. Merry Christmas to everyone! |

Our crappy Christmas weather in Alaska - RAIN! It was in the mid 30's. Makes a mess of everything and then gets challenging when it freezes up again.
Had to use a snow scoop for a temporary cover over my smoker.
