Great looking first cook. That brisket looks good enough to eat it all in one sitting . Interesting compact smoke ring. Thanks for the compliments. I know it was touch and go for awhile until you got her dialed in.
Anyone else out there have problems with too much air drawing through a Guru fan when it's not running? _________________ D. Tillery

Shannon, very nice. Now your starting to cook like me. I knew cooking on my backwoods would have you seeing things differently. You can get some sleep now...LOL
Hey tell Jen we took a vacation over Thanksgiving, Guess where we went? Nice and warm 85 every day. It was nice.
Have fun with that new cooker. _________________ Master Certified barbecue Judge,

mrcustomsteel - thank you sir - glad you got to see how everything ended up - thanks for working so hard and making a great coker for me again
Mrs. K.A.M. - Thank you ma'am!! I appreciate that!
ralph weller - Thanks Ralph!! Always good to see ya drop by! You crack me up - I can see you poking me in the side right now over havinf a backwoods style pit with a guru - HAHAHAH - but we'll still go old school at the comps It is nice getting some rest while practicing around the house - esp. with the little one running us around all the time - LOL! I'll let Jen know you went and had fun - she'll be dissapointed you didn't put her in your luggage and sneak her along - she would have loved it! Thanks for dropping in!
B'sBBQ - Thanks! I asked D about a roof so I wouldn't have to tarp the thing all the time, plus give me a little shelter for items when rain hits - so far, it's worked out really well. It's a LOT of fun designing pits with D - I think we make a pretty good team - he does way more of the work - but I have a few good ideas in there once in a while. |

mrcustomsteel, I cook on a backwoods fatboy and use a guru and have never had a problem. I shut all the vents except the smoke stack and let the guru run the show. It works great. I have had to replace one fan once though.
I have used it without the guru and the backwoods hold temps real steady once you get it where you want it.
Shannon, give it a few more cooks and you will forget about that old school stuff at comps . Then you can start enjoying your sleep and doing some good cooking on the new cooker. With that little one your going to need all the sleep you can get . _________________ Master Certified barbecue Judge,

Yeah - it was interesting - it looked like the guru was allowing some air to draw in through the fan or something - hard to explain in typing - the temp would creep even while the fan was not running, but when the fan was removed and the inducer pipe was plugged up - the temp would stop creeping.
Awww - now Ralph, u know I gotta keep it old school - LOL - although I am looking forward to using the one at the house quite often and being able to get other things done with the little one running around. |
