Hi all- have been lurking for a while and finally decided to join in. My brother-in-law got a smoker last year and since have had many a fine meal due to this thing. He's a chef by trade so i didn't expect anything less than stellar. At any rate, he let me borrow it for a friends cook-out over the summer (we did a small pig) and the pork was so great that we have decided to do this every year. I wanted my own smoker and pics from Google Images led me to this site. The first ones i saw were these double barrels and i got a kick out of how they looked! Loved that they were so back woods lookin' and primal... pretty bad azz!! I've checked out a lot of designs on this forum and have taken design hints and tips for my own build... now i am crazy obsessed with designing and research!! I still have a few questions regarding the build and hoping to get some informative answers from the Ring... thanks in advance! |

You will not be sorry on the DBS. I love mine. But if you don't want to fire it up for just a couple people, the a UDS is just as good, if not better.

Yea BBQ is like that, whether it’s a cooker, rubs, type of charcoal, wood, sauces and so on the more you get in it the crazier you get. It’s like an addiction that grows; I think you could relate it to the way some people are about golf, always looking for that one ball, club or doodad that will help their game. Just relax and “Just Say Yes” to barbecue it can be your friend, or it will ruin you. |

Ha ha ha... lets hope its my friend! Thanks for the warm welcome everyone. I spent all last evening looking into pits again and thinking a lot about jarhead's comment on the UDS, and YES! Now i gotta make one of them too!! Saw lots of pics and watched sum video on youtube regarding UDSs- I think a lot of the draw for me is the creativity of the pit and then actually getting to build it. Scoring the drums is the biggest challenge right now... |

| I am not OBSESSED. I am not OBSESSED. I am not OBSESSED. Just becauce I ponder airflow and thermal dynamics 1 to 6 hours per day does not mean I am obsessed. I am not OBSESSED. I am not OBSESSED. I am not OBSESSED. |

There is a BBQ Anonymous session, starting in my back yard beside the smoker...right after I clear all the snow off it and fire her up.

dmonkey welcome to the site. Yep, you know you're obsessed when you drive by a junk yard, see a water heater and right away come up with six different ideas to use that for a homemade smoker. _________________ IYAOYAS

Ahh ha ha... youz guyz is nutty round here....!! So funny... thinking about vents and exhaust... air flow... crazy fab mods that nobody has done before- starein' at anything that looks like it could be turned onto a smoker... Its all good bruthas... I actually had an idea for a weirdo- heat deflector thing that consisted of ss mixing bowls over the inlets to the cooking chamber! nixed that after a day of contemplation It is fun though... |
