ThermaPen has there old style pen on sale for 74.00 and the new slash proof for 96.00 I don't really have extra money this time of year but I think I need a good therm so my question is should I go with the old style pen or will I wish I got the slash proof? I will be using it just to take q temps. _________________ Good BBQ is all smoke and beers!

If I were buying a new Thermapen now, I'd go for the splash proof for sure... The original that I have is a great therm, but I wouldn't mind the extra bit of protection the new model offers. _________________

I have had mine for a while (4-5 years) now and although they are NOT the new splash proof ones, I have no plans to update now....or anytime soon.
P.S. I have 3 of them...gray, green & red. The red one is the fastest....of course. _________________ Often imitated but never duplicated |

The original is a great thermo. Don't know why the splash guard would be that helpful with meats. I had left mine out in the rain it was in a small cardboard box.It didn't get too wet, but had trouble when I first turned it on, but I let it dry and has worked fine ever since. You could save the money and still get a great tool/toy. _________________ Kill a cow, Start a fire ...

The splash proof would be very helpful any where around the pit or kitchen... Spilled marinades, spilled beer etc... If I ever have a need for another Thermapen, it'll be the splash proof. _________________
