I own a custom cabinet shop so we always have scraps of Oak, cherry, maple, etc...
One nice thing about cabinet grade wood is that it is dry.
Most of your local cab shop are probably throwing cut off pieces away in the summer time. Now might not be a good time to check because they are probably going to burn it in their heaters. |

Good suggestion, thanks. I think most cabinets are now made out of state for us due to air quality, but I will make a few rounds. Great idea _________________ Outdoor Cooking Editor--Examiner.com

So sawdust is illegal in CA too, does the state have a "Department of Flatulence Regulation" too. I bet they would check for sulpher compounds and methane emissions.
Wow, you guys got some goofy laws out there, and the legislators in CA are lending goofy ideas to the rest f the states too. _________________ Just remember that the toes you may step on during your climb to the top will also be attached to the a$$es you'll be forced to kiss on your way back down! |

No argument here. The good part is still having shorts weather in November. Beyond that.......'tis a peculiar place for sure. _________________ Outdoor Cooking Editor--Examiner.com

The difference in California and Florida is that in Florida YOU get to pick the nuts and fruits. _________________ I came into this world with nothing and proud to say that I have most of it left.

We are Florida bound in 4 years. I won't have to worry about in-state college tuition and my wife will be retired. I can work anywhere. Not settled on a place yet, but probably Amelia Island. Love the South, love Florida, hate California except for the weather. _________________ Outdoor Cooking Editor--Examiner.com

Great suggestion, that I tried once here in Portland. Unfortunately, the shop charged for their scrap and it wasn't very cheap. I'm sure it works in some places though. _________________ I prefer it to Tuna Helper, myself |

Yep!
A friend of mine has a saw mill and I get quite a bit of scrap hardwood as needed. Naturally, the sizes will be irregular, but that's not much of a problem with my 4' long firebox. _________________ Jerk Pit Master
