Posted: Oct 22 2009 Post subject: Tailgating DO Question |
|
|
Ringers I need some advice. A friend invited me to the Skins/Eagles game this coming Monday night at Fedex Field. My friend is an Eagles fan..me of course the diehard Skins fan.
For tailgating I'm thinking of cooking up some brats in the DO. Have not cooked brats in a DO before but thinking it is DOable.
Is it simply fill my DO (8 quart deep 12) about 1/4 to 1/2 with beer prick the brats and throw'em in. Also add onions and peppers and let it cook 20 mins or so. Drain the beer out then add butter and brown the brats, onions and peppers. Sound right or no?
Any edits, suggestions, ideas are welcome

That sounds good, maybe include some kraut in it.

jeep, that sounds fine to me, but what other gear are you going to have out there 'gaitin'? Sometimes, simpler is better as the cleanup goes...Remeber to clean the DO quicklike, or you could use the small aluminum pans to do your rendering....That DO will hold some heat for a while. What are you going to be using for heat? _________________ Kevin "Corndog" Cameron

Jeepdad take the brats and add the sauerkraut and a large can of Guinness Stout .Now that the brats are buried under the kraut and the Stout has been added there is like 6-8 brickets under and place another 12-14 on top. Cook for about 1 hour or until the stout carmalizes on the kraut..Very good and I mean very good..Enjoy

Wallaby, may have to try the brats with kraut and not peppers and onions never used kraut before with brats. Is there a certain kind I should use?
corndog, I will have a portable propane grill and my dutch oven table. I may use the grill for the brats and the DO for a blackberry cobbler. Not sure yet. I will be using charcoal with the DO. Will take my ash-can to put the coals in when done. And a gallon of water to put them out.
whitey, that sounds outstanding...will give it a go...and provide pics after the game. whitey, if I use the DO for the cobbler how would I do this on a burner....in a skillet or pot?
Bunqui, yep!
Thanks guys!

I would use a pot with a good tight sealed lid.It will work out great.Look forward to seeing the pictures..Have a great time at the bloodletting I mean Game
Go Skins
Have fun Dan..
Whitey.
P.S run the propane cooker real low to allow the stout to carmalize. _________________ Lang 84 delux long neck chargrill.

I can't see you ever going wrong with Guiness Stout. It's good in food and even better in the cook. For the kraut, the best is home made. _________________ "Never take off your hat, never sign your name."

Dont poke holes in the brats, you will let out all of the nice tasty juices while cooking.
Also the skins are going to lose so why bother going.... |

One day this week, shortly before practice, two turkey buzzards perched themselves high on two dying tree limbs overlooking the Washington Redskins' practice fields in Ashburn, Va.
With the buzzards watching, the players can only wonder might happen next.[b]
Reading up on this game and looking at the stats I dont think its going to be a blow out,if the skins show up to play. Redskins are 2-4 the Eagles 3-2.Should be a good game.
I will be watching to She how Your Skins do on Monday,I will be cheering them on.
Take Your C.I skillet and do Philly cheese steak sammies and cobbler. Now that sounds good also and would be easy to do.That would be a fitting meal. _________________ Lang 84 delux long neck chargrill.

Got home about 2:30 this morning from Fedex Field. Another frustrating game and equally frustrating is there were almost the same number of eagles fans as skins fans. At least the tailgating was a blast!
It was a nice evening probably in the low 50s great tailgating weather!
Got the brats and kraut going in Guinness.
Fired the chimney up for the blackberry cobbler.
Mom and me made some tater salad before the game. We kinda made our on thang between a German tater salad and southern tater salad with bacon of course! My buddy an eagles fan.
Chilling. I brought two sawhorses and 3/4 board for a table...and Redskins tablecloth of course!
The brats and kraut cooked in Guinness smells so good!
After simmering the krat and brats for an hour I thru the brats on the cast iron griddle to brown'em up!
Plated up brat, tater salad and a big ole pickle! Whitey my man those are the best tasting brats I have ever eaten..no bull. This is a keeper recipe everybody loved them. Thanks Bro! I didnt get any pics of the cobbler but it was dog gone tasty too.
The ESPN Monday Night Football guys doing their thing.
Players about to run out on the field.
Players come out.
The rest of the game is to horrible to show! The tailgating was fun hanging with friends with good chow is always fun. Again, thanks Bro whitey!
