Had to go to a family reunion this weekend. I seen some really strange looking meat with a bone running through it like a rib. I put one on my plate to try. This thing overtook me with the smell of liquid smoke. I laughed and reluctantly took a bite. Man was that thing bad. It tasted like it had been smoked over a brush fire full of pine needles. With just that one bite, I enjoyed it the rest of the day. |

There is absolutely no accounting for taste. I used to work at a restaurant where the fryer oil was in SERIOUS NEED OF A CHANGE. I mean, it was just OLD. (I had just started to work there, and didn't want to "rock the boat"). Anyway, this lady order some onion rings. I was embarrassed to cook them, but I had to. She actually ordered a 2nd order because she liked them so much. Go figure... _________________ "The difference between stupidity and genius is that genius has its limits" - Albert Einstein |

If their meat has even just the slightest bit of pink to it, they can't eat it. Personally, I'm a rare to med. rare kinda guy. _________________ "The difference between stupidity and genius is that genius has its limits" - Albert Einstein |

Oversmoked barbecue - well done steak and prime rib - mushy vegetables.
They all kind of make me feel badly for the folks that don't know how really good food tastes. _________________ OK Joe Offset

I stuggle to eat most of the food prepared by my wife's family. There are very set in their ways and have to have the life cooked out of everything they prepare. Example: ( I am not kidding) Pork Loin Recipe - Boil half pork loin for four hours, place in baking dish and bake at 350 for 3 to 4 additional hours. You might imagine what the result is.
I have often smoked meat for them (usually much past what I consider perfectly cooked) to accomodate their "fear of undercooked meat". They see the smoke ring and leave it untouched. Unfortunately, they also boil all of the wonderful vegetables they grow in the 3 plus acre garden until they can't be recognized. My wife's father actually told me one time that I would get sick from eating a raw snap pea (it was the best vegatable I have ever had when eating at their house).. |

Liquid smoke has it's place. It's place is on the grocery store shelf and it should stay there. _________________ The Wild Pig build.

My sister in law's husband likes to warm up prepackaged cooked and sauced ribs and he calls it BBQ ribs. I think that they suck. _________________ Q 'n Brews

Hey All,
I have trouble going into a restaurant now and paying for food. We have this place by us called Bubs BBQ. I brought the family last year after a cheer leading competition. Last weekend we had the competition again and originally the plan was to go to Bubs again. Well, now that I have started using the smoker there is no way I could ever go back there. I wouldn't even be able to fake that the food was good. My smoker has really ruined me and I love it.
The toughest part about doing the Q is that there are stretches of weekends when we have things planned and I can't do it. It is freakin' torture. I did mention to the wife that I may start doing the Q over night. Could be a good way to get a fix.
By the way, my mother in law likes to cook the turkey the day before Thanksgiving. Makes things easier. I may bring some ribs just to have something to eat. Bring them on the guise as a helping hand.

Sa-Mokin's sauce has liquid smoke in it, and I'm out right now. Gonna have to order more, as it's a really good sauce! _________________ "The difference between stupidity and genius is that genius has its limits" - Albert Einstein
