k, I finally found a drum. 2 of them actually. Got one from a quick lube and the other from an auto body place. One had tranny fluid and the other had paint thinner.

So.... What is the best way to clean these suckers out?? Just strt a fire and let it burn off? I know the paint thinner is really flamable but luckily they had it sitting outside with the cap off so most of it has evaporated.

Also, I hear you guys talking about lined and unlined drums. What are they lined with and is it easy to tell if they are lined??

I have two lidded drums, one has orange liner , the other tan color liner. They were both food grade, I just burned it out with fire.

Yes , that's what I would do if parrafin wax was stored in drum. For a sealed top drum with petro products , I would be more wary and take other measures, rinse, cut top off ,then burn liner off if any.

FOOD GRADE DRUMS ARE BEST I UNDERSTAND THAT NOT EVERYONE HAS THEM HANDY. BUT THATS THE ROUTE I WOULD GO. ALL FRUIT JUICE, COOKING OIL, SYRUP, ANY THING LIKE THAT, IF ANY FACTORIES / PLANTS IN YOUR AREA, I'D BE LOOKING THERE. JUST MY OPINION, CAN'T BE TOO CAREFUL.

GOOD LUCK TO YA WHICH EVER CHOICE YOU MAKE, AND POST PICS OF THE FIREWORKS..

lucky8926, if they are closed top drums, I would fill them with water first and then drain to wash out most of the residue. Then drill a hole close the edge and then use a sabre saw to cut out the top. once this is done drill your intake holes and then build your fire in them. The wide open top will keep you from blowing up the drum.

Didn't see this post, I responded to your other Very Happy But I would do like k.a.m. says and burn that sucker out nice and hot, two, three, four times if need be. The way I look at it there was any residue in there it should be out with a couple hot fires, fires that will be hotter than I would smoke any meat at Laughing
Good luck you will love the UDS

I picked up a wood pallet and cut it up and built a great HOT fire. One good burn is enough. Drill your intake holes as it will allow oxy to help the fire burn hotter. Rinse it out with water. Brush it with lard or bacon grease before you use it first time. GOOD TO GO................Post PIX's...... Razz Twisted Evil
