Since this never got answered in the other thread Rolling Eyes how many lbs of pasta does it take you to feed 100? I have seen that 5lbs can feed 50 and also 100, not sure how that works out.

I normally use a 4-5 oz. per person serving size for sides Alex.

That being said, a skinny guy like me can easily put away 8 oz. to a pound.

From there it doesn't take Einstein to figure it out (or maybe it does).

Welcome back, we have missed your input! Very Happy

Here are two recipes I found that say they feed 100.

Recipe 1)

4 (2 lb.) boxes macaroni (8 lbs)
2 1/2 lb. cheese (2.5 lbs)
2 dozen eggs (1.5 lbs)
1 1/2 gallons milk (12 lbs)
6 cans of cream of chicken soup (6 lbs)
1 lb. margarine (1 lb)
Salt and pepper

Total of 31 lbs less cooking loss for 100 people

Recipe 2)

8 lb. elbow macaroni (8 lbs)
8 lb. Velveeta cheese (8 lbs)
1 1/2 lb. margarine (1.5 lbs)
3 c. flour (1 lb)
2 gal. milk (16 lbs)
8 tsp. salt
1 tsp. pepper
3 large pkg. shredded Cheddar cheese (5 lbs)

Total weight 39.5 lbs less cooking loss / 100 people

So just with these two the macaroni part is 8 lb / 100 all other ingredients change, but the macaroni stayed the same. that would suggest that about 1.28 Oz of mac / person will serve out at about 4 Oz portions when everything else is put in the mix.

Never tried that much mac & cheese! Wink

Alex

I use 8 Pounds for 100, so methinks thats 4 pounds for 50, and that will provide generous portions...can't see using 5 pounds for 100 and 5 pounds for 50...who in heck said that, sounds like BS to me ??
Good Grief Rolling Eyes

Cheers
Orval

1 pound of uncooked pasta equals approximately 2 1/2 pounds when cooked.

10 trays from the freezer section at Sam's Laughing

I'm not trying to be known for my Mc & Cheese, but it does come out very well.

Hey...you may not be known for your mac and cheese, but at least you'll be known for your honesty. Wink

I am not sure where I heard this but some one once told me that 10lbs of Pasta per 100. I am guessing that must have included overages. And I have always gone by that....Rule???? Works for me, but I also don't really weigh the portions, I just give a good scoop or just put it out for a buffet line.

Thanks Ed, I didn't know what a Lb weighed out at. Learn somethin new everyday.

I use around 11 lbs of pasta for 100 people. Just wanted to make sure I was on the same page.

Anyone know how you can feed 100 people with 5 lbs? Bueller? Anyone?

Dan, that looks like a really good place to start, verified by Ed (who would argue pasta weights with a guy named Ranucchi! Razz )

By the time you add in cheese, milk, etc. you would be roughly at 5-6 oz per guest.

Your dad (and Dan, and SoEzzy) answered your question Alex.

Just to re-cap: the general consensus seems to be 8-10 pounds of pasta plus other ingredients.

Your point then is?

Simple Mike, my question was and still is, how do you feed 5lbs of pasta to 100 people? If you know how please tell me. I am not a seasoned caterer like you guys so I was just wondering how this is done. It doesn't seem like you could pull it off but I may be wrong, hence the question.
