|

I just introduced myself, i'm in AZ looking to try my hand at smoking, and would love some input about this particular smoker...
At Costco, they have a 30" vertical propane smoker from King Kooker. From the site:
#54,000 BTU Cast Burner
#2 Sliding Cabinet Racks
#1 Sliding Marinade Rack
#3 Sausage Hanging Racks
#Removable Porcelain Water Pan
#Removable Wood Chip Pan with Vented Lid
#Side Door for Easy Access and Minimal Heat Loss
#Two Adjustable Side Dampers
#Smokestack with Damper and Red "Hot" Signal
#Large Temperature Gauge on Front Door
#Heat Resistant Handles
#Listed LP Hose and Regulator with Type 1 Connection
#Deep Fry Thermometer
#Instruction/Recipe Booklet
#CSA Design Certified
The reason I am interested, besides the fact it is propane, is that the smoking cabinet comes off so that I can put a 30qt pot on top, and use it to deep fry a turkey.
If there are other propane smokers in the $250 price range that are better, even if it won't double as a turkey fryer, I'd love some advice.
Thanks! |

I've been hanging out here for a few months and I'm certain I could count the total number of times propane smokers have been mentioned on one hand. So it might be awhile before your thread gathers any useful info.
In the mean time, the forum Search widget is probably your best bet. I took a quicky look for "Kooker", and only got a total of five hits across the entire suite of forums.
This might be telling you something. Or not. Who knows?
Anyway...one of those threads might actually be helpful:

Finally, if you search for "vertical gas smoker" with the "Search for all terms" radio button enabled, you'll get a slew of threads that might be even more helpful...

You will be sick of this thing in no time.
I got this one from Sam's:

It was pathetic. If it ever ran dry of water, you had a three-alarm blaze. I burned up several butts and ribs with it before I finally just took it back. It is junk. |

I would stay away from propane personally. If you can go with something that burns charcoal, wood, or pellets. If you want to go with an alternate heat source because you cannot burn wood, charcoal, or pellets due living in an apartment or such I would get a cheap electric smoker. _________________ "if you cant cook it in bacon grease it ain't worth eating"

| Take a look at the Camp Chef Smoke Vault. Its a propane fired cooker and they have a single wide and double wide model. I personally have the double wide and I love it. It turns out really good Q. I like the fact that I dont have to constantly baby sit it to cook good Q. It's not for the purist being it is fired by propane, but it works very well for me. |
