Hi All,
New member here from Springfield MA and I'm just getting back into cooking with charcoal. I have been doing some research over the internet and have made a few phone calls on finding good lump in my area. As you can tell I'm having some problems locating anything decent. I have a Lowes near me that carries Cowboy brand but I'm hesitant to try it from the reviews I've read. My local Walmart dose not carry lump so here I am. If anyone has any info on what's around here I would really appreciate it.

thanks,
Dan

Hey tazz,

My brother lives in Wilbraham and uses Wicked Good Lump. I'll ask him where he gets it tomorrow and drop you another post. Wicked Good is probably my favorite. It burns for a long time, nice and hot and not too much ash.

tazz, you can find Wicked Good Lump and Briquettes at CSM, Inc. at 248 Main St. in Monson. Phone is 413-267-4334. Wicked Good's website lists all the stores in MA you can find it at, but I think CSM is closest to Springfield.

I did see the Wicked Good In Monson although I haven't called them yet to see what they have in stock. I did check my local Ace and they only have Cowboy in stock. I was more or less asking if anyone around here knows who carrys what, I guess I just want to save on gas for the car and my time running around as time is at a premium. I have read the reviews on the Naked Whiz so I have a good idea of what to get I just have to find out what is in my local area. But anyways thanks for the help so far.

CSM is about a 1/2 hour drive to get there, I guess in the big picture that's not all that bad. I'll just have to load up on it.

Thanks,
Dan

well I found some Royal Oak lump at one of the local Walmarts near me so I got some. I went to CSM on a whim and found out that they have moved, not in Monson anymore, now they are in Three Rivers, so I go there and guess what, closed on Mondays. I should have heeded my own advice and called first. I did see a bag of Wicked Good through the window and it had a price tag of $18.00, to expensive for me.

My local Agway (Northborough, MA) carries Royal Oak. Looks like there are three Agway stores in your area: http://www.agway.com/store_locator.html.

Also, try calling fireplace/grill shops. The closest fireplace/grill shop to me carries Primo hardwood charcoal.

An upscale supermarket in the town east of here also carries hardwood charcoal.

Hey, Tazz I live just over the border from you in South Windsor. I recently started using charcoal grills again and found that Wicked Good Lump Charcoal is great. I was able to find it in East Hartford just off 384. Not too far from you. $20 and change out the door for a 22lb bag. A bit pricey but better than using Cowboy Charcoal from Home Depot. I don't mind spending a bit more money on the charcoal since I'm spending good money on the meat.

I saw vinny's when I was looking on the net. I found some Royal Oak Lump tucked in the back corner of Walmart here in Spfld. I've been using that. I did try some Cowboy garbage from Lowes and so far I really like the R/O, it's only $6.98 for ten pounds and is American hardwood. As I work in Middletown I can stop at Vinny's on the way home some night and give Wicked Good a try. My days of going downtown are pretty much over as the violence in that area is just out of control these days and yes I used to frequent the Gras quite a bit. I even used to be a bouncer over at the Fifth Alarm for a few years.

No kidding, I work in Middletown, too. Aetna to be exact, but we're moving to Hartford pretty soon. As for the violence, I hear ya on that. I DJ @ Koji in Hartford and the violence is rediculous. Luckily the place that I DJ @ doesn't attract the violent crowd. Where in Middletown do you work?

Guys, you can get wicked good direct in holyoke, ma. by the pallet. i sent my dad up for a pallet in july, piece of pie. from where we live in coventry, ct. it was less than an hour's drive.

web search for laralee distributers, they are out of maine but have a distribution center in holyoke...

i will always have allegiance to vinny's for some things (i grew up in east hartford about 1/2 mile away (used to be called Skippy's), but it's just too high priced to buy there in volume....

good luck,

Rob
